I don't have experience with the PBSM, but I had a PBS standard and thought it was a great guitar for the money.

I sold the PBS and bought a W/S Mahogany because I like the tone a little better -- just a personal preference on the sound, not necessarily better or worse. I haven't compared it to the PBSM though.

I tried all 3 back to back, and definitely preferred
the maple model overall. I also liked the laminated mahogany model far better than the solid mahogany, so go figure.

I have the PBSM. I haven't compared it to the laminated models. Someone on the forum recently (in the last few months, I'd say) posted a link to a website which had sound samples of different squarenecks, including the 3 Goldtone models. I found the sound of of the PBSM sample to be noticeably darker/warmer than the laminates, and the maple was the brighter of the two laminate models. I'm sure each model has its fans.
If you can find the site (does anyone know which thread that was in?) it may help you in your search.

It might not be the link that you meant, but
here is a nice comparison between several models on Wolfgang Reimer´s site.

Enjoy!

edit: Mark, you beat me on speed, second on the finish-line...

Thanks for your comments! Sounclips of those three models were great, thanks!
Solid mahogany sounds deeper and richer to me than mahogany laminate and maple. All I've heard is that it is a good guitar, especially for the money so I ordered the PBSM.Thanks for your help!
