How does it compare to the Dual Channel Christmas Tree?

Thanks
Dave

That's an old single channel; lots of guys preferred those over the Christmas Tree.

It is solid state, with a great clean reverb, about 80 to 100 watts output. Designed and maybe built by Kenneth Cain. I have one just like it with a JBL D130 in it. This amp was before the Christmas tree model, I think.

It is a great amp.

Thanx,
Jim

Jim may be right. It's been a long time. But I'm thinking these came along during and for a short while after the Christmas tree era. I was told that
Kenneth Cain built the early single channels but not the later ones. All single channels looked the same on the outside. Can't say about the inside...bb

Speaking of old Sho Bud amps...
The other night on the Marty Stuart show Buck Trent was playing thru and old amp...was that the "X-mas" tree amp?

The Old Single Channels and The Christmas Tree amps were in Production at The Same Time. I was there right after Kenneth Cain.

Not Many Christmas Tree's Were Built after The Single Channel Came out, but were available on Special Order. No major Electronic Differences except for the 2nd Channel.

Maybe everyone thought the Single Channel sounded better because it was black. Very Happy

Wasn't the "Christmas Tree" amp also black? Everyone I saw was.

Not all Single Channels were Black Either, Lloyd Green Had a green one and I made some cabinets in 1974 for the DJ Convention that were Several Different Colors.

In the early 70's I bought a CAIN amp head from Maurice Anderson. It was single channel, solid state, reverb and a tremelo (speed and depth controls). Except for the tremelo, it is exactly like the SHO-BUD amp I have now.

Thanx,
Jim

A follow-up question: Why is the speaker mounted to one side instead of in the center?

Thanx,
Jim

Jim,

probably to balance the thing when you carry it since the power transformer is off to one side. Offsetting the speaker re-balances the thing.

I bought a Sho-Bud single channel off the forum last year that had been gone through/restored by Mr. Sanner in Bakersfield. It has the JBL 15". I use it w/a MSA S10 that has Geogle L's pickup. Fantastic tone IMHO, however if you are playing in a really loud band you'll need to mike off. Also sounds great with my archtop at low volume.

Yes, I have a Cain built Christams Tree and it sounds great for steel and Tele at medium/loud volumes. I use an Altec 418B.

That's the amp that Paul Franklin used for the first 30 or 40 times I saw him in Nashville (he played a ShoBud that his Dad made for him through that amp).

Surprise! He sounded just like Paul Franklin!
