Guys!,
I've got to tell you that the E-66 cuts like a knife in recording, i bought one last week and got it today and immediatly put it in my guitar and it was just wow... Whoa! , couldn't beleive how it sounds in the mix, i've been working on my new CD for the last year or so and never could mix the steel to my taste there was always too much highs and lows and the mids where hash and couldn't get a warm and smooth mids but now with the E-66 it sounds fantastic Very Happy , the highs are clean without being to harsh and bright and the mids are clean and cuts through the mix like never before and the 5th string sounds better then before, i had and old BL-710 and it was always to bright in the mix Sad , and also i've noticed with the E-66 that it sounds better and more sustain above the 12th fret and doesnt ring in my ears anymore Laughing Smile, this pickup is a keeper for me for recording. Very Happy

I even got a little of that Emmons 'growl' they talk about with this pickup. Laughing Razz

I had one on my '80 Sho-Bud Pro III, on my E9 neck and I played it on a session back in 1996. Talk about a sweet sound. It was beautiful. It was both sweet and mellow. You made a good choice there.
And the guy who put it in called me the next day after he installed wondering if he did a good job. I told him he did.

The E-66 seems to get mixed reviews from players I've spoken to. I've had three guitars with E-66's installed, and all sounded stellar. Not sure why some players are opposed to them. It's my favourite humbucker, hands-down. Glad it's working out for you, Pat. I recently did a session with mine as well, and it too came out sounding great.

I installed a pair on my sho-bud when the original pick-ups went very muddy, about 10 years ago, the tone has been absolutly wonderful ever since, not to mention very quiet, and i like single coils really, but these are very sweet humbuckers, not thick and deep, almost single coil. I have not tried many others, so i cant speak for the competition, i just bought them on reputation and was instantly sold. Awsome pick-up, i agree, Weldone lad!

I have an E-66 on my home built. I like it. To me it sounds too bright and rather thin when I play it. When other play it, it sounds just great.

For a humbucker it is hard to beat the Fulawka . I have 2 of them and am putting one on one of the guitars I am building

Bent,

I have 3 different pickup a BL710, E-66 and an old sho-bud single coil and i've recorded with all of them and i can tell you that the E-66 cuts and sounds better in the mix then all the others i have, i've been doing recording for alot of years and for me the secret of recording is to have the best sound before going in the recording , alot of people judge their guitar sound with their amp settings but playing at home or live on stage is totaly different from a recording session, there is a certain sounds that sits and cut throught a mix better then others, different players style and guitars and pickups makes a huge different in a good pedal steel track,
even Paul Franklin said in another post that the sound engineer has alot of say in what sounds good ,
all this to say that for me it sounds better for my playing style with the guitar i'm using, but again what sounds good to me doesn't mean it'll sound good to you Razz

They must be good cause alot of pedal steel guitar company puts them in their guitar. Very Happy
