What's a good comfortable set of phones around $100 or less for home recording monitoring?

There are lots of opinions on this, but I just had the chance to use a set of Audio Technica ATH-m50. I liked them so much I bought a pair, 99.95 shipped on ebay. They seem to get consistently good reviews. The things I liked: good detail with little or no smear, nice low end without being muddy, clear top end, comfortable, good iso.
Just one guy's opinion, I'm sure you'll get more.

You know I don't remember, but the cable was long enough (even coiled) that it wasn't a bother for me. I noticed that AT also sells a straight cable version according to their web site.

| Get some Grado's, they're made in Brooklyn and they're the best by miles and miles. I think they run around $60 or 70. |

Love my Grados--I use the model 125--a bit more pricewise than the above mentioned model (about $150), but they are awesome. George Massenburg says you can hear the grass grow in Grados. They are a more open back design, so not good for tracking with acoustic instruments or vocals...

Bob,
I measured the straight part.. it's about 2.5 feet from the headphones to where the coiled piece starts, and about 1 foot of straight cable on the plug end.

I usually have my daughter standing up about 6' away from the mixer for vocals. Just seems it would be uncomfortable to have the curly pulling on you!
We have just been monitoring through the speakers to this point but of course you get a little bleed over on the vocal track. Maybe not really such a bad thing?

I do all home recordings with a wireless headphone.No chords that you have to worry about.
Radioshack sells them pretty cheap.I have a more expensive model(not radioshack). |
