Here's my home brew attempt at this song! Drums are EZDrummer Nashville Expansion Pack.

To answer some questions about my practice setup, I've included a sound file below of just my steel guitar using the same setup and settings that I practice and record with.

Keys In The Mailbox in wma format

Keys In The Mailbox in streaming mp3 format

The sample file below was recorded with the following setup:

MSA Legend, 16.6K Truetones
31" George L's cable to Goodrich 120 pot pedal with Dunlop HotPotz
15" cable to Boss RV-5
RV-5 Settings: Elevel 11:00, Tone 1:00, Time 1:30, Mode Hall
15' cable to Fender Steel King with stock speaker
Steel King settings: Gain 10:00, Treble 2:30, Mid Level 12:00, Mid Freq 12:00, Bass 12:00, Reverb Off, Master 9:30, Mute Off, Limiter On (Switch Out), Gain Normal
Amp is tipped at 22 degrees, front is 18" off floor
Shure SM-57 mic 2.5" from and perpendicular to grill pointed at edge of speaker's silver cone.

I'll tab out this simple solo below on Saturday. It includes a neat chord obtained by raising the bottom E string a half tone and leaving the top E string unaltered.

Nice clip, Greg. Have to ask you, how do you find the EZDrummer program to work with? I was impressed by it's sound and was looking for an alternative to BIAB. Can you just buy the Nashville patch or do you have to purchase the EZDrummer package also?

John,

You have to buy EzDrummer and then also buy the Nashville Expansion pack.

The programming is much easier than a drum machine provided you already have experience programming a drum machine or playing drums. I use some of the provided patterns and some I create on my own.

For example you have to manually edit a pattern to create an end on beat 5 or beat 7. Or if you add a fill and need to have a cymbal hit in the first beat of the next pattern, you have to add it manually. So it's a lot of work to get started but I was able to create the entire drum track for this song, including all the testing and downloading to my Yamaha workstation in about 2 hours. I've done other songs in 30 minutes and spent over 8 hours on another. It's not a totally automated process. The more time you spend custommizing the track and mixing it, the better and more real the results will be.

I've imported BIAB and midi drum tracks into Reaper (the sequencer I use to store and organize the drum tracks) for genres like jazz and big band where I don't have a clue how to program the drum tracks.

Bent, I have to do this a lot to get these clips and sound bites from the forum. Just right click on the the highlighted text and then click "save link as" and down load it.
