Is there anyone in this neck-of-the woods?

Thanks,

Hey Rog
Are you going to have some work done on that Derby?

Yes, Robert.

I'm a bit embarrassed to say that the prospect of trying to do it myself is too daunting. I'd finish up with parts everywhere with little idea of where they were supposed to go.

Bo Borland went to some lengths to explain how to do it, and I have kept his email in a 'file' - maybe I'll read it again and see. My life would be so much simpler if I had at a least a basic familiarity with psg mechanics.

I only spoke with Charlie Stepp two weeks ago, and he had happily agreed to do the work for me when I pass through TN and KY in May on my way to my Summer gig. At a personal level his sad passing is a tragic occurrence, but I'd hate to think that the Derby Guitar will no longer be built. I'm so impressed with mine, and I fully intend to acquire another when I can.

I understand Rog
You want to make sure that you do it right, Don't do any harm to the great Derby
I just today found out about Charlie. That is to bad alright. I love my Derby that I just recently acquired but I have to adjust my pedals. It seems like the pedals are higher on this one.

When we go to Florida we go to Punta Gorda. We didn't make it down this past winter but will be down there next winter. Larry Bell is near Bradenton Sarasota area. He might be able to help you out.

Good luck
Bob

I already asked Larry - he didn't fancy the idea! I suspect he's only marginally more accomplished than I am underneath these things!

Edited to add:
Okay - I'll concede that Larry is at least TWICE as accomplished as I am under these things!!!!(Not saying much, mind you... Very Happy )

Having never worked on a Derby guitar, I have no parts nor sources, nor experience. If it were my guitar I would do it, but adding a pedal (drilling holes, etc.) to a friend's guitar is not something I'd choose to do.

Ernie Cawby -- YOU OUT THERE?? Any ideas?
I struck out trying to find someone to work on my Cooped Sho-Bud S-12. I ended up going to Jeff Surratt outside Nashville.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Even though I thought it through and described it, it's never as easy as it sounds.
I have passed up a lot of steels that had the E knee levers on the left knee because I did not want to have to move the 1/2 stop to the other side.
Swapping out pedal rods and switching lkl to lkr for example is not too hard on an all pull.

I don't know if Martin (Mike) Weenik would do it or not. But worth asking.

Jack:

Just to clarify:

I need my Derby SD-10 switching from the alien set-up (Emmons Very Happy ) to everyone's favourite - 'Day' Whoa! .

That's reversing pedals 1 and 3, as well as LKL and LKR. In this case, the Bs to Bb are on LKV, which I hate - they need to go on the right leg somewhere.

So: all existing rods, and no drilling!

As it happens, I may now have this covered. Dave O'Brien has let me know that he may be able to accommodate me. I've already emailed Dave to explain that I sold that LeGrande 111 he mentions above before I got around to having it 'switched'. I apologise for my omission; I should have let him know of my change-in-plans.

I do appreciate everyone's input.

Check your email, Dave - have you also got a pot of paint so we can obliterate that boring black mica?

Very Happy

Hey Roger. Why don't you let me have a crack at it. I know nothing about working on a Derby, and most other non-Fessenden steels, but I just LOVE drilling holes in things.

Stilson wrench, and adjustable spanner. I haven't heard those terms since I worked across the pond a lot of years ago.
