I have a question to ask all you very knowledgeable fellows on here. Maybe there is no "right answer". I have ABC pedals on my Derby. My pedals seem to be out of adjustment because I can't go from A pedal only to AB pedals very well. The side of my foot hits on the side of the B pedal when I slide it over to go on the B pedal. I know that some people don't slide their foot but just cock it up over the B pedal and then let it back down on B. But this method causes your leg to swing out to the side just a little bit and it hits on the LKL lever. The movement of the levers on this Derby are very small and easy and precise
Do you guys have your A pedal higher than your B? I never noticed any problem with my Fessy in this way but my Fessy pedals were lower to the floor and I didn't get "hung up on them". It might help if I lower the Derby pedals too... I am going to adjust them and figured that I would give you all a holler and get some good ideas.
Also I want to add. The pedals that I like best are the ones on my Push Pull. They are wider and tapered on the edges. Very good idea.
Thanks

Yes! Many folks position the B-pedal a little lower than the A-pedal.
It makes it easier to hit the A-pedal alone... without accidentally touching B-pedal and detuning the 3rd and 6th strings. |

IMHO, you should be able to play the A,B,& C pedal combinations without moving your heel. Simply position your heel behind the B pedal, and then just pivot your foot (without moving your heel) to hit A&B, B&C, or any individual A,B, or C pedal. The pedals should be within 1/2" (height-wise) so this move is easier to do, and none of them should not be so high as to make raising you toe to switch from one to another without lifting your heel uncomfortable. (Note: It is not really important for the pedals to "bottom out" at the same height.) |

Thanks guys
I just got this Derby and need to adjust the pedals. It could be the angle of my foo. My heel is over toward the c pedal and my foot lays at an angle when I have the AB down. I haven't had any problem with my other guitars. Maybe I need to work on straightening out my foot.
How far off the floor do you guys like your pedals?
Thanks

You should also be able to bend your ankle to rock between 2 pedals (doesn't matter which 2). If your knee is swinging , you need to practice on keeping your knee still. The way I cured it was to hold my knee with both hands as hard as I could, and then practice rocking my ankle in the different directions until they were strong enough to do it without assistance from the leg (causing the knee to swing). |

Excellent point, Richard! I've seen a few of those players who rock their whole leg on the A&B move. |

Robert,
Before you start adjusting your Pedals since you have a DERBY, "they don't operate like most other steels." So, you might want to read up here and look for each of "John B's" Replies first.
An Adjustment Question
That way, you'll have a good idea of how to go about doing it, (the right way) without problems afterwards.
Enjoy your new steel,

Thank you very much Don for directing me to that post. That was very interesting. John is a wizard on these DERBY'S.
Just for the record I want to state that this guitar has easy and precise pedal and levers movement. Plays very easy and quick. Also for the record, I bought this guitar used and not from the factory. It needed a little adjustment here and there but I have it to my liken now, I love it. Thank you everyone for all your help.
