Had a great time at my old late friend " Buck Owens " Crystal Palace in Bakersfield. And the King of the Bakersfield Steel Guitar my old friend " Larry Petree " was giging there on the 19th. He was the high-light of the night for me. Larry you sure still sound great and I think better with age. My brother " Larry Eiffert " enjoyed your playing Mr. Petree. We got those, " Vallarta " & " Pro & Sons Ranch Markets " in Sharp. I can't wait to come back to do that " Superior " Super Market. Thanks for the Visit. Your old friend,Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.

How did I miss this one? Embarassed I agree with all the above. Larry is a great steeler and a good friend to boot. He's helped me out with my guitars a few times and plays some mighty sweet steel. If any of you get out this way go hear him play.

I had the supreme pleasure of sitting in on lead guitar with Larry and Red at Trout's a while back.

I had a great time, listening to and interacting with Larry. He's an outstanding player as well as a good friend. I would do it again all the time if it wasn't so far away.

Ditto! Larry was a big help with some very reasonably priced parts when I got my P/P D10 a couple years ago. His work space is as clean as an operating room. And his garage is pretty impressive too!

I've had the pleasure of knowing Larry for many years and a while back, at Trout's, I got to play on the same bill as his band. He sounded way more better than I did, and I enjoyed every minute.

I can't pass up a chance to say some nice things about the Bakersfield fireman and steel guitar player. I met Larry several years ago at Scotty's when he came with Norm Hamlet. We've stayed in touch over the years and he's got to get back to Scotty's sometime soon!

I hope retirement (from the FD, not the PSG) is treating you well. It sounds like you're getting lots of pickin' time, Larry.

Ron

Great thread! YES! Mr. Petri is a king in our world of steel guitar. I feel so good about what this man has done for steel guitar. He has also helped me by always being there to sell me anything I may need that he has in stock. If he treats the competition this good, imagine how well he'd treat a customer! Yes, Larry is a great person and close friend.

Big Jim Baron hooked me up with Larry back in the late 90's to have some work done on a steel. I drove to one of his gigs in Fresno to pick the guitar up a couple weeks later and "WOW" they were playing some knocked out western swing. Larry was all over it like butter on a biscuit. Smooth moves and killer tone just the way it should be. I give Larry a good 20% of the blame for getting me into steel. He is a really nice guy too.

Yup, it's all good and so is Larry Petree.

Just kidding...Larry is my mentor, One of the finest people not only in the steel guitar world, but the world itself. If you don't want the truth, don't ask Larry. He is one of the most honest people I have ever met. By the way, a first class steel guitar player too. His wife Betty is an amazing artist. There is a lot of talent in the Petree household...rj
