I wanted to pick everyone's brains about power amps. I recently purchased a revelation tube preamp and am very happy with it. I'll eventually be getting a TC M-One for effects. I have access to a Mesa Boogie Simul-Class 295 Power Amp, but don't know if that would be the best thing to use. We usually use in ears and go straight into a board. When we're not using that I'll either go through a Webb or two TC Furlong Split Model CB12s. I've read some good things about the Mos Valve 500, but don't know if it's considerably better than the Mesa Boogie 295. If money wasn't an issue, what would everyone out there recommend for my setup? Thank you for your time and thoughts.

The VHT 2-90-2 is a must try IMHO. |

It's all about gravity. If you don't mind lugging the Boogie around, that's a great amp to have with the Rev. This VHT is also spectacular. The Mosvalve 500 will give you more power and will be a bit cleaner and is also lighter. There are other options that are even lighter and louder. The Furlong CB12's are one example of very light and very loud and very good sounding.

As usual Brad has exceptional words of wisdom! That being said, the Mosvalve 500 is an excellent amp to pair with the Revelation as well as Stewart power amps. |

Thanks for all the good advice guys. This is such a great place to go for help of any kind when it comes to the steel. Brad has been very helpful emailing me over the past month. He's going to build me a rack that's already wired for the gear I've got coming in.
Just in case you didn't know, that Revelation Tube Preamp is the bomb!
Thanks, Jeff |

Jeff, Just my 2 cents. The MosValve is the cleanest amp I've ever played thru. You get out of it exactly what you put into it, just louder!!! I would recommend it to anyone using a rack system. Having said that....I've used rack systems for probably 15 to 20 years. Unquestionably the best sound I ever got was with a Profex II into 2 Session 400's (I know it's not a real rack system). But, the lack of strong back caused me to go to a true rack system (DCP1000) and 15" BW's. Played thru that for many years till it (the rack) was stolen. That's when I bought the MosVavle. I've used it for several years with a TubeFex. No complaints at all except....once again my back and age have caused me to rethink the whole thing and I bought a Session 2000. I love this amp. It is what I believe to be the perfect Steel Guitar amp. It is versatle, not to heavy, good power, sounds great, etc.....I recently bought a 1972 Twin and I really like it too. Much more weight of course. But the MosVavle and BW's have become my house rig. Good luck no matter how you decide to go. God Bless, Whip. _________________ Whip Lashaway

I'll see if I can find a MosValve 500 out there somewhere. There seem to be quite a few people who agree with you on how good they are. Do you know where I can get one? I'll do some searching around to see what I can find out about the Session 2000s as well. Thanks so much for your help.

Don't do it before you try the VHT 2/90/2 or you'll kick yourself one day..... _________________ "...An admission of interest in protracted commentary is certainly no reason to capitalize on surmised aberations that do not exist." - BH |

The Session 2000 is still out there in use. We manufactured about 150 or so. |

I did check out the MosValve for sale and will get it if I can. Right now the Mesa Boogie 295 works pretty well. It's REALLY heavy, but I can deal with that for now. Once I get that rack in I may have to get something smaller. Thanks for all the great advice.
