Hey Yall!
I'm taking a ride to Jacksonville Florida from Phoenix AZ in a couple days.
I will be traveling Interstate 10 the whole way and would appreciate any tips / info on venues that have live music along or near that route.
I'm trying to get a southern U.S. tour together for our band and sure could use the help.
So any of you living in:
New Mexico,
Texas,
Louisiana,
Alabama,
Georgia,
or Florida with any ideas about Venues that still have "Live Music", send 'em my way!
The closer to Interstate 10, the better (I'll be dropping off band promo material along the way)!

Come on folks, help John out. John is a great Steel and Tele player. He plays with Earl Wear, if you haven't heard these guys your missing out. It don't get any better. Earl is one of the best singers on the scene today.He has a song out called walking to Wyoming, it should be a top 10 hit.

| Hey John--- what's that you're playing in the pic? Looks kinda like a git-steel. I can only see 4 tuners on the bottom neck, but the way you are holding your hand, looks like you're playing steel, or slide. Never saw a 4-string steel or slide guitar, before. Hey James,
That guitar is a Melobar SteelGitr. I won Guitar player Magazine's 30th Anniversary competition (Steel Guitar Category) and it was the prize! Originally, I was supposed to get a single neck 8 string steel. Melobar owner/builder Ted Smith found out I played steel and guitar and offered to build me the first SteelGitr! What a great guy! It is the very first one. It has a 8 string steel neck with a Dobro simulator built in (switchable off/on). The guitar & steel necks both sound and play great. This is one of my favorite instruments!

John, I can see (hear) why you won the guitar! That guitar intrigues me! It looks, to me, to be an improvement over Junior Brown's Guitsteel. The angle of the steel neck lets you hold your Bar hand in a more normal position. Do you have a bar pocket for when you switch necks? I didn't see any finger picks. Do you play the steel neck with bare fingers? I've been trying to learn to play my leads with my steel guitar picks on, to make the switch quicker. Not easy, because I use very light strings on my lead guitars, and the psg picks don't work well with them ( 8-to-3 . When I started learning steel, I played with my bare fingers, but I couldn't get the tone to sound right. I had seen Don Felder playing psg without picks, soI tried it for awhile,but soon made up my mind to use the finger picks. It must be great to know a guitar builder like Ted Smith! Ya-know, years ago, before the bender craze, I had a friend who devised a bender using a cable from a car (like a brake or choke cable) Perhaps the Melobar, could be set up with A-B-C pedals---maybe a strap pull, for a D lever! Oh well--if I win the lottery, i'll have one made! Anyway, John, you have, at least, one more fan.(me!) The best of luck, with your career. -Jake Jacoby- |

Hey James,
There is a bar "Holster" between the necks on the body. I play this guitar without picks but use them on my pedal steels.
