Hi
I've just got biab 2009 . Does anyone know how to drive this thing ? Being a computer dummy I find this overwhelming . I bought it to mainly to lay down some tracks to play along with and maybe help in writing some stuff . I guess I can do that , writing out each bar seems slow and I feel like I'm way out of my depth . Any comments ? |

Hi Brendan. What specifically would you like to know how to do with BIAB? |

Brendan:
Big Jim Baron (forum member & BIAB guru) can help you a lot. Get his 4100+ BIAB CD which contains ready to use BIAB tracks. There are over 4100 songs on the CD and range from country to jazz stuff. It also contains the Buddy Emmons arrangement of "Danny Boy".
Big Jims email is bigjim4b@sbcglobal.net
Big Jim is a great person to work with and great steel picker.

Andy , I'm not sure what I want to do with it ! I bought it because everyone here seems to use it .I suppose I want it for practice purposes as laying down rythm tracks to play along with .But I know there is so much more it can do . Maybe I'll get in touch with big Jim Baron . |

I am also new to BIAB. I would appreciate it if we could keep this thread alive long enough to gather up information links for ourselves and others.
I have learned to bring almost any MP3 into BIAB. The program will find the cords. I can check to see if I heard them correctly. It is a great tool for a student or anyone.
I am going to look at Big Jim Baron's CDs. There are also several tutiorials on the BIAB website. I found them helpful click here. There is alot of other helpful information there also.
I hope this helps. It's all I know right now. |

BIAB is actually pretty simple to use....it just looks hard. One you get started with it you'll figure it out. |

Making tracks to practice with is indeed an easy task. You simply input the chords to the song your workin on, you can start with an intro, then set the number of choruses and where the song ends. You can then make up your own ending or let BIAB do it for you. It's real easy to change keys too if you want to play in a certain key. And bein able to change the tempo is really cool. All in all BIAB is a great learnin too to practice with. |

Over the years, BIAB has developed a case of "feature bloat". Don't let that obscure it's original intent, to provide background rhythm tracks to play or sing with. The other stuff could be used in time, but get the basics down, like chord entering and setting up the paramaters of the song. It does that job quite well. |

Hey Brendan,,,although I've been using the VERY basics of BIAB for years,,,I can still identify with you,,,,those people speak a different language than us computer dummies do. I'm sure we could all get the answers we need,,,,except some of us DON'T KNOW HOW TO ASK THE QUESTION!!!,,,,or when someone explains how to do something,we find out there was something we should have done BEFORE that,,,,
I wish b0b would have a category for BIAB with someone like Big Jim or George Wixon as moderator |

Start by just modifying tracks, and it will get easier as you go along. Like most of these "music background" tools, I find it's far easier to just modify a song that's already programmed in than it is to try to create a whole new one from scratch. |

Don't know if you guys know it or not, but over in the "For sale, music, lessons, etc" section of the forum bOb has some Ray Price shuffles that were created by Big Jim Baron for sale and the proceeds go to support the forum.
Big Jim's the BIAB man!!!!

I (or any psg player) use the Ray Price styles walking bass/shuffles more than anything. I just bought a 2009 version of the plug and play hard drive and it did not have them on it! Had to have help from my fo'bro's and go back to some older versions.
Tamara,,,,I sent you a pm |

I got it, Sonny. I hope I helped a little.
Now, if I can figure out how to do the basic stuff. I am having trouble figureing out how to enter a song from a cord chart and then adding drums and bass to make a back up track of sorts. I have no clue to where to start with that. I am going to check out some of the links posted here. Hopefully, I will find out the answer there.
The Tri State Steel Show is having a workshop on BIAB on Friday, April 24 in Washington, PA. Chuck Campbell is giving it. I will be sure to catch that!
Thanks for all your help! |

I had some questions when I got mine. I called customer service and they walked me through it. They have great customer support. Very patient and accommodating to a computer challenged guy like me. _________________ GFI Ultra S-10, Nashville 112, stuff. |

Brendan-Lots of good advice here on the Forum. I have Big Jim's 4100 songs. What I do, is play the BIAB Melodies with the Biab song, check out if I want to change a chord or two to suit me, Change the tempo to suit me, put the key I want, and find it pretty good , sometimes change the style, Mute the melody, and you have a good backup track.
With the newer Audio Feature, you can play a song of your own and it will print and lay down the chords for you. A great tool for players, and SongWriters...al. _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.

I've had every version of Band-in-a-Box since it first came out, and I still can't fathom most of it out.
I don't know whether I'm just thick or need to put a lot more time into it.... |
