Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. I will do my last Derailer gig (for now) at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Tx. We are doing a show with Robert Earl Keen. Should be a blast. Sorry, it's sold out. Hope to hang out with the great Marty Muse, who's playing w/REK.

We're (the Legends) at the Woodmen of the World Hall in Hampton, Virginia again this year. We rented the hall last year and sold our own tickets and made some good bucks and had a great crowd so we're doing the same thing again this year and so far the ticket sales are going good and they're almost gone. Have a good 'un...JH

For 40 years my New Years Eve jobs paid my car tags and insurance for another year. Now, I just lean back in my recliner in front of the fireplace and if I can stay away until 11pm (Central time), I watch the "ball" fall in Times Square (Eastern time)on my tv!...then I go to bed.

I am glad that I don't have to dodge all those drunk drivers on New Year Eve anymore!

I for the first time in 22 years dont have a new years eve gig which actually kinda makes me happy but , as usual some one in the local crowd will call at the last minute. Kinda hope they dont would be nice to kiss my wife at midnight instead of watching her passing out hats and noisemakers from a bandstand!!!

Has anyone ever heard Blue Jade on a non-pedal steel? I think that's what I'll be working on at home on New Years Eve. Happy New Year! “Big John” Bechtel

Schraeder Hall, Victoria, Tx - Everyone makes big bucks that night. Everyone takes a potluck dish and we eat like pigs. We're planning on spending the night and taking the wives to the coast next day for some fishing and maybe swimming. It's only 30 miles to the gulf.

I'm all set to have a blow-out at Whiskey Tango in Birmingham,AL. First set doing classic country with the "Hillbilly Truckers", then slipping on the bellbottoms to close the night with "Lava Lamp" and 70's classics. Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye are a blast on pedal steel... Yeah...

I'll be donning my "suit of lights" (aka my Tux, "gigging toga" etc), and then transform myself into "Buddy Love" so I can play & sing everything from "Girl from Ipanema" to "New York-NY" for jewelry rattlin' rich folks in Palm Springs CA. Who says money can't buy happiness? They get a great 5 piece band at $550 per man, and never bat a surgically lifted eyelash.
