If every steel player in the world doesnt get this Cd for his collection, they miss one of those classics like Jimmys' "Steel and Strings" Like one of only a few virtuosos' in the world of music like Chet
James Gallway, Wes, Garner to name a few, he has definatly matured and plays with more feeling and tone than ever. Maybe not as flashey but as with fine wine much better. Lloyd , I believe if you go in the studio and just start doing wonderful listening , relaxing steel albums like Chet did, you wont have to worry about playing what some tone deaf producer thinks is great stuff!
These producer are probably that hire most of the deaf and dumb sound men too! nuff said

Skip, I agree with you about Lloyd not needing to show his flashy side of playing. I've said it before and will say it again, I think he's more concerned with making good music, not necessarily stuff that will make steel players say, "WOW!!". If you listen to many of the songs he's written and performed over the years on his albums you'll find that most of them (there's an exception to every rule of course) have a darn nice melody to them. This, I believe, is the reason I can go back and listen to some of his older albums again and again while other steel players albums gather dust in my basement.

Mike, Tell Lloyd to bring one of these to the sound booth in St Louis and I will play excerpts during some of the break time. The other players say this really helps their sales.

I just got my copy of Lloyd's new CD "Lloyd Green Revisited" in today's mail. After listening to it several times, all I can say is WOW!! with a Capital W....Lloyds playing is better than ever, if that is possible? I particularily like "Borrowed Angel" and "Farewell Party", since I kind'a thought I had those two tunes down pretty good, until I heard Lloyd play them again, Man O Man, what feeling and tone he gets. This will be one CD that everyone MUST HAVE! Lloyd, if you happen to read this, when is your next CD coming out?

I've got to bump this thread.

I bet I've listened to this CD better than 30 times since I've received it. This CD is beyond "great"! I don't know that I can pick one favorite song... I can pick ten though. I just love how broad the song selection is. I will say that I'm not sure I've ever heard a song quite as haunting as "Calling You". I'm moved every time I listen to it. I'm stumped at how a player as technically and creatively perfect as Mr. Green is can contiune to grow. This CD is however, evidence that it's possible. Mr. Green, thank you for this wonderful collection of Masterpieces.

Incidentally, does anyone know the writers credits for tracks 2, 4, 8 & 10?

Respectfully,
David Burr

"God Only Knows" was originally recorded by The Beach Boys on the amazing Pet Sounds album. Brian Wilson and Tony Asher co-wrote the song. If you haven't heard that original version, I highly recommend seeking it out. Your local library probably has a copy of Pet Sounds you can check out.

I was so thrilled when I saw that Mr. Green chose to record this on Revisited. As a Gillian Welch fan, I'm also really enjoying "100 Years From Now." As mentioned by earlier posters, there's just a great lineup of songs on this album! And all are wonderfully played, of course.

It's by Jevetta Steele from the soundtrack of Baghdad Cafe. Almost as haunting as Lloyd's version - but not quite. http://www.thesteelesmusic.com/jevetta.html
That would be Calling You. I was listening to it when I wrote this.

This recording is a thing of beauty.
I agree there are almost too many great songs to really pick favorites, there is something for almost any faction of the steel listening public.
I have to pick Ashokan Fairwell as the most perfect for me. Just hauntingly lyrical.
