On March 13-14 and 15 is the annual get together at the Last Stage West. LSW is located on the north side of hwy 41 on the hill between Atascadero and Morro Bay, California. Back in the day it was a big hangout for local musicians. 5 or 6 years ago it burned to the ground. About 3 years ago it was rebuilt. Since then a closenit group of musician/friends have gathered there on the second weekend in March. This is an informal benefit performance/party that pretty much fills the place up on Friday and Saturday nights.
On Friday the 13th Dona Deack and Jay Meiselman (aka Smokehouse Swing) will be holding forth on the stage. They ususally perform with a bass and a sideman or two. But on this occassion pretty much all the sidemen they use will be there, including me. Dona is a terrific vocalist. I like to call Jay the Don Helms of the harmonica.
The 14th will be jamming off and on all day. The evening of the 14th is usually taken up by a pickup band of our acquaintances. We go by the name, Camp Crud Crooners.
There will be some jamming on Sunday into the early afternoon most likely.
The music is generally swing, traditional jazz and great american songbook. The level of play is usually what I would call intermediate. But this year at least one good (that is advanced to expert)country rythm player says he's coming.
I will be there with my Chandler Studio 6 and my Republic Tricone. They are both tuned to C6. You will be free to try either or both if you want to. The strings on the Chandler will be new. On the Tricone about 1 month old. Or bring your own axe. I'll be glad to share the stage with my fellow steelers (especially for the country tunes).
The restaurant USUALLY gives out free food and drink to the EVENING BANDSTAND* musicians. There is a tip jar. I usually pass on the tips. Friday night may be too crowded for a pedal guitar. But in the past they have been able to squeeze me in with a console guitar. There is much more stage room on Saturday night.
*I'm there both nights until late. I always order dinner. They don't usually accept my money. It happens that way with others as well. _________________ Amor vincit omnia

Thanks for the heads up on this. Although I am booked on Fri/Sat night (Creston/Parkfield) I will try to make it there on Sat afternoon. Sounds like a great time at a great place....

I know it's not generally considered nice to bump topics in this section to the top. But I was urged to make a clarification in the last paragraph of the topic in order to avoid a potential unpleasant misunderstanding. I hope everybody sees it. I tried to do it in bold. But the marker kept jumping to the end of the post. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |
