Most steel players have never heard a ZB. They would freak if they coiuld here that combo pictured pictured there. Equipment DOES make a huge difference. Smart man that Dave Zirbel. |

My ShoBud Professional sounds amazing through that ShoBud amp too! It's probably from around that same era. |

I will never make Universals. I don't believe in them. I respect the people who play them though. The ten string ZB's keep me busy enough. Alot of people who hear a ZB for the first time say the same thing. "Thats what a pedal steel guitar is supposed to sound like". They share alot of the same qualities as the P/P but have just a little more mid range. Dave, as you know, you've got a monster guitar there.

Dave - this is a new (to you) ZB? That thing is gorgeous (as are the others in this thread).
And where did you find that Sho-Bud amp? Remember that one that Dave Berzanky had? Man, that thing sounded awesome, and he found it pretty cheap! _________________ Mark |

Mark, you saw me play that ZB at the Last Day Saloon last year! I've had it for 6 or 7 years but had Greg Jones restore it three or four years ago. The amp is new to me as of three weeks ago. I took it out last night for the first time and really enjoyed it. Got it from Lee Jeffries.
I will take the ShoBud D10 out next time and see how it works in a live situation with it's counterpart ShoBud amp! |

I wasn't sure...it didn't look so bright, but then it's dark in that club. For that matter, I've seen you play it before that - I thought maybe you were possibly adding to the herd. _________________ Mark |

Hey Richard B. I think your ZB is early to mid 70's by the look of the knee levers and the floor pedals. I don't know the scoop on the serial numbers. I've heard the numbers don't have any logical sequence and Zane didn't keep good records? It's somewhere on the ZB thread. Also I remember a page with all known ZB numbers on it somewhere out there in cyberspace!
Mark-I'll be thinning the herd soon starting with a 59/60 Fender 1000.
Brian H. someone was talking vids of last night where I played the ZB and SB amp. If anything winds up on youtube and my playing doesn't suck totally I will post it here to hear it.

I think the volume was between 3 and 4, bass around 3 or 4 and treble around 6 or 7, I think. I was twiddling the knobs a bit. I used an outboard reverb and the speaker is an Altec 418b.

Whadda ya know... i've had an Altec 418B in my old Session 400 for 30 years. It's the eight ohm version, but still sounds great with plenty of power and has never let me down... |
