That is not simply "a Champion"... it's a Mint Condition one, which adds about 30% to the value. It's in beautiful factory new condition. I think $800 is the right price for That one, maybe even a little low. Of course, that does not mean that all Champions are now worth more. Mint is in a class all it's own.

The seller does a good job in the ad on addressing the questions about the price, he's not a doofus that doesn't know what he has.

I had a 1949 also in mint condition which I sold years ago for $600. I wish I still had it!!!

Anyone can offer anything for any price on eBay. If you do a search for completed items (items that closed, either with or without offers), you find what people are really willing to pay. The closest item to this particular guitar went for $450 Buy It Now, but this Champion being discussed is in better condition. $350 worth of better? It's up to the buyer.

Brad, Ron posted earlier that he sold one in mint condition years ago for $600, so all closed auction business stuff aside, a mint Champion for $880-$900 in 2009 is apparently not out of line.
On the other hand, maybe the guitar won't fetch that precisely because it is 2009, with the state of the economy.
As far as the one listed for $1099 from the store in San Diego that has some pretty good mileage on it...give me a break!

Well, I used to have a 1958 Flying V. It was stolen over 30 years ago. Wish I still had it , so I could sell it and move to Florida! |
