Barney gives some family history in Hawaiian music. His father was a distinguished song writer and composer in Hawaii.

Barney plays on the video the song, Analani E, composed by his father, Alvin Kaleolani Isaacs

Barney Isaacs was one gentle soul. You can tell that when you listen can't you?

Barneys favorite steel players were his own father, Alvin K. Isaacs, and Jules Ah See.

He had a special bond with his father and a high respect.

He had such a soft, sweet touch with the steel.

Even though I lived in the Islands in the 1960's into the 1970's, I never met Barney until I moved to the Mainland.
I always appreciated his thoughfulness and kindness. He truly was a man of much aloha.

Hope you are enjoying the History of Hawaiian steel guitar videos.

Aloha, Smile

Don,

Mahalo nui loa for posting this video. Barney's love of music and Hawaii just flows out of his every note.

His stories were very touching here, especially about his father. Never knew that.

Thanks once again.

Aloha brah,

Josh

You're 100% right, Don. Barney was one of the finest gentlemen and steel player that I ever knew.
His widow,- Cookie Isaacs is also one fine lady. We see and visit with her every time we're in Hawaii. Last year it was lunch with Cookie, Kaleo Wood Byrd, Frank & Donna Miller at The Willows. What a delightful time we had. We'll no doubt do it again this year. We can't wait.
