Good golly, but I played with my band for the first time in more than a month tonight. I took Chris "I'm glowing!!!" Ivey's advice and turned my old '74 Session 400 up and kept the volume pedal down.
Suddenly I got this terrific tone. Man those old barrel Buds sound fabulous. I don't miss my push/pulls one bit. This guitar is way sexier sounding than a push/pull, plus the wider spaced strings make it easier for my old hands to pick... |

I agree, early seventies, these old Sho-Buds are pretty great, in many ways, this one seems to be perfect in the tone Dept.

I've preached on here for 10 years that players should turn up their amps and learn to use the volume pedal. The general response usually is "my amp is too loud to turn it up".
No wonder they have tone problems.  |

Hey Tom, I've been enjoying my SB Professional as well. I just picked up a ShoBud amp from about the same era and the combo sounds like a million bucks! Seems like the trick to make them sing is to back off on volume pedal!  What band do you play with?

| Well said Donny, I'm one who listend to your advice way back then. I like to crank up on my Fender tube amps and control it with the volume pedal. Those tubes "bloom", and the shobud tone comes alive!! Sustain for days. |

Hi Dave. I am playing with some guys here who play under the name Bathtub Gin. It is pretty anarchic but satisfying. We play originals that are good, mixed in wth late '60s, early '70s gems from the Country Rock portfolio.
I'm also playing with a terrific woman singer.

I heard your name mentioned a few times around here in the 18 years I've lived here Tom. Usually it was about what a great player you are. I bump into Monique Timberlake every now and then. She is still playing steel. I did some stuff with Kenny Kahn who passed away a few years ago. He knew you as well. Kenny eventually recorded a demo in Nashville and had none other than the great Buddy Emmons on steel!
Hope to hear your band someday.

Dear Kenny and Marlene. They were great people. Monique is also a wonderful lady who has worked hard to play the steel.

I know my '74 Session 400 really came alive after I turned it up to four and turned the volume pedal back. and Nick-san, I'll get another push/pull. A clean orignal mid-70s guitar -- in black! -L- I saw your youtube videos. You did some great singin' and pickin'!

| I like to turn the amp up and pick strings with my volume pedal at between 2/3s and 3/4s open, and use the remainder for sustain. Oh yeah, and I can't say enough great things about "Bathtub Gin". All around pros! Great guitar playing, and pitch-perfect singing. A band to watch! |
