I think it's just a regular steel through a Talk Box, Digitech Talker, vocoder, or the like. |

It's basically just a small speaker in a sealed box with a hose attached. You hook the speaker up to an amp, and place the hose in your mouth, and then you "mouth" the words as you play. The first one was reputed to be little more than a speaker in a coffee can. |

Daniel, I sell the Heil talk box. Pete Drake did it way back. Hello Walls! You still need a microphone because the sound comes out of your mouth. $200.
Danelecro has anewer type. Never tried it but it is an inline stomp box. It is on page 123. $129.

I made a talkbox in the late '60s. It was a driver from a Voice Of The Theater horn, with surgical tube fastened to it. Stuck the tube in the corner of my mouth and "sang" into a mic. Worked fine! No box required. |

If you going to talk about the talking steel guitar you have to mention Alvino Rey . He had the steel talking way back

I could never stomach the sound of this talk box thing on steel guitar. That's one effect that I wish would go extinct. I liked Pete Drakes playing, but not with the talk box. _________________ Steeless. |
