A friend of mine,long-time R&R/Rockabilly guitarist,
played some Console on stage the other nite and,at
least, one member of the audience strolled over to
ask about "that keyboard instrument..."when will
they ever learn,when will they e-e-ever lea-a-arn?!

Never.

Only a few interested devotees will.
Most people don't know what a steel guitar is, even after you tell them.
They can't see what you're doing like they can with guitar or fiddle - so they have no concept.
You could be typing or ironing for all they know.

When you konk them over the head with your steel and ask if that felt like a keyboard.

My favourite was when a drunk guy came up to say he enjoyed my `impesizer` playing. I think he meant synthesizer. I told him it was a pedal steel guitar and he then informed me that he couldn't stand `Wyamin` guitars and toddled off. I assumed he meant Hawiian guitars.

Arch.

I always get asked about that 'pedal steel' I was playing, even though it was actually a non pedal console.

Haven't gotten the 'synthesiser' or 'keyboard' comment yet.. Laughing
