Has anyone noticed that since the merger, the DJs on Willie's Place and The Roadhouse play two to three songs and then talk five minutes? I can unplug XM and listen to regular radio for that! |

Overheard in the corporate boardroom...
"Hey people, everyone likes what were doing, what can we do to change that?"
It was "fixed" but now it's broken.
Just your typical corporate management decision outcome... |

It's like all the new "behind-the-scenes" talk now on American Idol. They want to make everything a personal story to try and boost ratings. Half of them can't sing, and now they gotta show us that 90% of 'em can't talk either. ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) |

Now it's even worse...Willie's Place now has Bill Mack, the "King" of talking DJs!!! If you listen early in the morning they don't talk as much, but it falls apart around noon and that's when I switch to something else for the rest of the day! |

I just got XM a few weeks ago. I like some of the talk on Roadhouse unless its the commercials for the other channels. Willie's Place can be terrible. The morning isn't too bad but I agree that Bill Mack is over the top and I change to something else. The evening drive guy can be a little long winded.
Over all, sure beats any other country station I can get in Pittsburgh so I am thrilled to have XM even with its perceived faults. |

DJ's are talking too much??!! When did that start? It was bound to come to XM sooner or later. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |

Are you remotely surprised? The usual Madison Ave. huckster approach - anything to suck them in, then stick 'em with the shaft.
Satellite radio should and (I think) will die of dead weight and no real raison d'etre.

Yup. What do they always want? MORE! MORE! MORE! MORE! MORE!. It doesn't matter how much they have now - they want more. I wish that was a joke, but alas, it's not.
This is a mentality that just repeats itself over and over again in corporate America. Companies will do something good to appeal to a discriminating clientele - in order to get in the game, you have to distinguish yourself. But then once everything's working, they want to go where the BIG numbers are - you guessed it, they're not so dam discriminating. But on the other hand, why the would those folks - who seem to devour commercial media drivel with gusto - want to pay a bunch of money every month for the same crap they can get for free via normal broadcast?
Somebody isn't doing their homework. How many years did it take for this to go into the toilet? Seems like not very many at all. This handwriting was on the wall when they went from Hank's Place to Willie's Place. Nothing against Willie at all - they should have given him a separate show. But I guess they don't want "too much country".
My opinions, naturally. |

IMO is there only one thing that will help...Boycott them....show them that you don't want this.
It is easy for people to sit on the sideline and say it is not appropriate.....but the best thing is to do something about it.Maybe this is a little bit of a hard statement and my apology for that.

I like Willies Place.. but yesterday when I really wanted to hear music all I got was Bill Mack taking inane phone calls on the air. I turned him off until his shift was over. Sorry Bill, I don't mind a little chat but your killing me. |

It won't do any good to complain here. Why not send an email to XM and voice your opinion.... I'm going to. |

I have been emailing on a regular basis since I really noticed the change in programming. I've received the standard form response. Thats OK, makes me feel better! LOL. Obviously grasping at straws when they are in trouble. Too bad, I really enjoyed it there for awhile.
I think Dave is right. Probably wasn't going to work from the git go. Not enough of us willing to pay for "good, commercial free" programming, to make it work long term.

On your computer, go to"Pandora", join up, create your on station of Faron Young, Johnny Paycheck, Merle, Dale Watson etc., and you're good to go....for free!
What Pandora does is takes your suggestions and augments them with similar type music using their "Genome" technology to create a playlist. You can listen all day without commercials or DJs going on an on about whatever it is they think is supposed to entertain us. You can create different "stations" for whatever mood you're in and save them for future listening.
Right now I'm listening to Jerry Byrd Radio. Later it might be Herbie Hancock Radio....or maybe Lloyd Green radio.
Try it, you'll like it! |

It's all gonna collapse into a big hole pretty soon. The big D ya know... But, Country Music will return sll the bigger as a result.
If there had been Ipods, cell phones, X-boxes, widescreen TV's, GPS's, and computers in 1963, they wouldn't have sold much to my clan 'cause no one in my socio-economic group could have afforded them.
That's where it's all going.
Hang on to yer amplifiers. |

AAAAAHHHHHRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
Now Willie's place is rebroadcasting several hours of "DJ's talk too much programming" each day.
Our little local FM station plays the same tape each day. You can tell the time by the tune. I'd expect that from a flea powered low budget local venue, but not from a subscription service.
I never thought XM-13 would deteriorate into the "comparative" wasteland it has become.
Now they plan to charge additional for internet feed. |

I don't like the excess talk either. Dallas Wayne (spel) is one of the worst.
They need to get back to playing classic country and western swing and less talk. I paid a year in advance. hope they don't go under... |

Bill Mack is an Icon in Country radio and has my respect. That said, I get real bored with the inane phone conversations, to the point that I have changed stations on occasion.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is. ![Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) _________________ Ellis Miller
