Since the steel guitar originated as an Hawaiian instrument, I'm interested to know how many of you play the tarropatch, which is an 8-string ukelele, with a slightly bigger body and eight double courses, with the top three courses in unison and the bottom an octave ?

This is the tarropatch that I play.

This is a Martin tarropatch.

Alan,
There is a site called :-

http://www.taropatch.net/

Which I frequent, at present I'm building a couple of National Lap Steel Replicas with the sole intention of running Slack Key tunings and playing Hawaiian music on them, transposed from the Slack Key Guitar music. Its delightful stuff.

James.

Before this gets too "off topic", keep in mind that taropatch has more than one meaning. Here is another thread:

I believe this topic is about the instrument.

Alan,

I was at a farm auction up in MI, years ago and there was one of those on what they call the "Jewelry Wagon", small items, pots pans, dishes etc.

I had no idea what it was. I figured , ah, what the hell, it has strings on it and it looks old, I kicked the party off at five bucks, some old bidee on the other side of the wagon kept giving me the "evil Eye" so I jumped off at $10.25. I guess I should have kept going!

Same auction, walked off with a beautiful "Kalamazoo" mudburst 6 string steel guitar in A-1 puppy dog shape. Four dollars!

So that was a Taropatch! Who knew!

I wear a tarotpatch to try and give up my addiction to fortune telling.
