Who did the steel guitar work on all their albums. From the sound of it I think he/she was playing a Legrande.
This is some of the best steel guitar recording I heard in a long time.

Someone know who did all these studio sessions?

Ron

P.S
I can't put up any soundtracks but you can hear them here.Be sure to install their free player first.I think I will not be the only one that loves this music.

Roger.....if you have the chance to get those albums.....buy them.....it will be your best purchase this year.
Allison and The Cox Family have done some cd's in the past and they sound sort alike.
I have recordings from The Cox Family dating back to 1974 but still don't know who the steel player was.
Do a search on YouTube and you can see them live.Unbelievable.

Everybody and his brother has played steel with them through the years -- according to an internet search

Kayton Roberts
Weldon Myrick
Bruce Bouton
Paul Franklin
Tommy White
Ron Block (the guy who used to play banjo in Union Station)

Rob Ickes played dobro

Great music

I have a wonderful CD by the Cox Family called "Just When We're Thinking It's Over"....... The CD is produced and arranged by Alison Krause, that says a bunch as to the quality. I saw that on the back and thought it'd be all acoustic but there's keyboard, pedal steel, electric guitar(s), fiddle(s), in fact it's a helluva country album.

My favorite cut is a remake of the old Del Shannon hit "Runaway"..... It's done in a bluegrass 2/4 tempo with great harmonies. The lead break starts on electric guitar in the lower registers, then the piano comes in, and the ride ends with pedal steel. Alison was an absolute genius with the arrangements of this CD.

The musicians on the CD were mostly Alison's Union Station bandmates along with:

Pat McGrath........electric guitar
Adam Steffy........mandolin (former Union Station member)
Bruce Bouton.......pedal steel
Gary Smith.........piano
Victor Krause......upright bass (Alison's brother)
Steuart Smith......electric guitar
Matt Rollings......piano
Paul Franklin......pedal steel

This is without a doubt one of the best CD's I've ever heard. It was cut in 1996 but if you can find a copy it'll be worth is, guaranteed! The CD is on Asylum records #61809-2 ......JH in Va.

Jerry:

Thanks for that 'heads up' - I just found it on Amazon and it's on its way to me for slightly under $10, inc. shipping.

I'm taking your word for it - a safe bet, I'm sure! It IS Alison Krauss, after all, and you're a b-bender guy. How can I go wrong??? Whoa!

Jerry,

you picked out a great song. This song has been on CMT in the passed a lot.
I have not seen it on TV ever since.
As a matter of fact....I don't know if they are still performing.
They have done a couple of songs that are IMO way better then "Runaway".I did some searches on "Fileden" and came up with the following files.
My impression is that these are musically seen from such high standards that the Country Music from nowadays can't even top this.

Cry baby cry

Yes she sure is.....if not better. But who am I to judge? There also is an album called Alison Krauss and The Cox Family - I know who holds tomorrow. If you have the chance to get that then do so.....you'll love it.
