I recently acquired a double-neck lap steel. Unfortunately it is more instrument than I can handle.

Tonight, I'll be installing new sets of six strings (instead of eight). The back neck will be in Open E (EBEG#BE). The front neck will be in C6/A7 (C#EGACE).

Even if I were to use all eight strings, I would still like to keep the "E" on top on both tunings. If you were going to do this, would you install the 6 strings in nut slots 1-6 or in nut slots 2-7? It is possible that I might add 1 or even 2 lower strings at a later date, on both tunings.
