Trying to help a friend find some original/replacement tuners that would fit, or work on a '54 Fender D8. New or used is ok, as long as they are in decent working condition. Any help would be appreciated.

Chuck,

Please do a search on this same forum section to find many previous discussions on this subject. Fender used a couple different styles of tuners on their Stringmaster and Deluxe 8 steel guitars, so we'd have to know which ones your friend is seeking. They're almost impossible to find, for what it's worth.

Brad thanks for the input, I'll see if he can shed some light on that. I do know he is not nessicarily looking to exactly match the stock tuners. In this case he actively uses the guitar, and is looking at it more from a practical aspect and is wanting something that will be usable and not necessarily original. In other words, he is wanting usable tuners more so than needing tuners from a restoration aspect.

Anyway, I'll see if he can help with better description, and post here if and when I get it. I can say I don't think his is the Stringmaster, but maybe those tuners are interchangeable as long as you get the right ones??

Chuck, I use to own a 70's Fender D-8 that used the "F" style strat tuners like these, (Click Here) instead of the usual "4 on a strip" style. If you search around you can find them.
