Hi David,
I can tell you about the steel festival in Norway. I take it that you mean the one you are going to in April.
It is less like a big festival, and more like a nice intimate little steel meet in one of the most idyllic parts of Norway.

From what I have heard so far, you will be going to a collection of islands in the North Sea, most likely the island of Fosnavåg.

You will be met at Gardermoen Airport by your host, Atle Kvalsvik... and some host he is!
From what I have heard second hand, you will be driven to Fosnavåg in Atle's car. This is a scenic 5-6 hour drive and you will see some of the most astounding nature that Norway has to offer.
You will be taken care of very well by Atle. He speaks English quite fluently and is just a great person to be around.

I had the benefit of Atle's hospitality last summer, when he had arranged for a steel meet at his house. He had gotten 7 or 8 steelers together, plus other musicians. There were steels aplenty, as well as instruments for a full band setup.

You will meet a bunch of super steel-dedicated people.
Like the rest of the world, your music and steel-prowess is well known and loved in Norway as well. Make sure you bring enough of your CD's and DVD's!

There is only one sad part to this story, which is that I can't be there myself. But I would have loved to!

Just concentrate on having a great time!
Bent

Thanks for your reply.

I am looking forward to it apart from I am going it alone. Me, Steel, Suitcase, and a few CD's no doubt! Oh, And a Sheepskin Coat I reckon!

I have never been to Norway and know nothing about the place really. I have been told they will 'Look after me'! and I have nothing to worry about..

I will have to get a 'Translator' on my iPod!

Hey? Can't the 'Northern Lights' be seen up there in north Norway?

That would be nice to see..

David..

If you've never been, then you are in for a treat. They DO take care of you. Norwegian hospitality is well known.
Actually, the climate is quite temperate on the west coast, and by April the sheep skin coat might not be needed...but bring warm clothes just in case.
Translator not needed since Norwegians are generally fluent in English, especially the steel players...they HAD to learn English in order to learn the steel!
Not sure if you will see the northern lights that far south or if that is a north-Norway phenomenon.
There will be other breathtaking scenery that will blow your mind.

Just letting you know that I am definately booked to play at the Norway PSG event. I arrive on Thursday evening (2nd April), I have 2 full days there (Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th April), and travel home on the Sunday 5th April).

Thanks Atle..... See you in Oslo on the 2nd for my 'Long road to heaven' drive from the airport to the north!

Will the Huskys be able to pull me and the steel all that way?

No Huskies, David, but Norwegian Elk Hounds. Then, when you get far enough North, the reindeer take over.
Atle will supply a pair of skis. You strap the steel case to the skis, sit on top of it, hitch the Elk Hounds up to the front and let'er rip, skip.
Every other vehicle has to yield right of way.
