Looks like you were having fun, and that's the whole point.
You sure had that lap steel wailing - with those settings you could probably sustain one note forever! _________________

Thanks, Rick! Yessir, fun was had by all. I used a Variax 300 electric with a nut-raiser on the "Lester" (Les Paul) setting. The amp is a cheap 15 amp, Vox DA5 set on "Blues 2". There were no other EQ or effects.
We all hope to do much better at the Summer Family Reunion. You are invited to come play in my place! _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

Good effort, Ray. As I say about many of my performances, "It had some good moments."
I feel the hats definitely improved the sound.
Those little Vox DA5 amps are great, aren't they.
Check out my CD (below) if you like blues steel. |

Rick, C'mon down.... I have placed the other kids in an orphanage and moved my wife to the garage.
David, you are kind! I agree about the hats. They were garage sale items bought just for the show.... I'm currently trying to arrange Red Sails... and Blue Hawaii, in Open E, so I'll need a lei for the next time. _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

You sound too much like Jerry Byrd, Ray __ work on creating your own style.
...kidding of course, Ray. Keep working. If I had waited until I learned "what not to play" I would never have played. |

Ray,
Thanks for posting this, you were creating music and that's what it's all about.
I don't think any player is ever really satisfied with their performances and always know they could do better.
But I tell you what: you live and learn and next time it'll be better and better, so forth and so on....
Keep on pickin', learning and posting your videos to the forum. The mere fact that you did this means a lot. _________________ Lap-n-Console Steel Guitar Lessons |

Thanks Rick.... Jerry who????
Josh, you never seem to have a bad word to say against anyone. I admire that. Your encouragement is always appreciated. You should ask Obama to hire you as a diplomat.
We all thought it sounded pretty good while we were playing, but listening to it later was a different story. _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

I think that was great, playing music with your family when you get together, that's terrific.
I think it sounded real good especially since it was your first rehearsal playing the song together.
Very cool. |

Thanks for the kind words, Jason.....
Playing music with family is wonderful, no doubt about it. I have 10 siblings ranging from age 43 to almost 66 (me).
With all this unexpected encouragement, I am only determined to get better and better. _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

Ray, playing music at home with friends and family was a big part of American life until roughly the advent of radio. You've recaptured something very special. We're all learning, growing and trying to get better - even the pros. Keep at it and thanks for sharing. |

I am truly humbled and thrilled at this outpouring of positive comments and support. Thank you all so very much.....
Andy, playing music with my loved ones will be a big part of my life until the end.
Doug, here is a short but funny story about tone. When we were deciding what to play for the Xmas party, I called in an old friend who used to play with Hound Dog Taylor many years ago. He gave one brother a couple of blues harp lessons. He had a guitar listed on ebay for about $2200. I asked him why he wanted to sell it. He said: "So I can buy an expensive amp to get the tone you have with your $100 amp!" _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

Don, some would call my actions craziness or stupidity, I prefer your eloquent term of "fearlessness".
I guess that being vision and hearing impaired does have some benefits? _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

Hey Ray.....you're much too hard on yourself...I give you all the credit in the world for making the recording and posting it on the Forum.....I liked it and I think about a minute in, the sound seemed to clear up (or maybe people in the room got quiet?, aha) and I got to hear what you were playing without straining.....Good stuff, I enjoyed it. |
