After doing sixteen takes of an Hawaiian number that I'm recording, I take my hat off to those who routinely perform live. I only have to get it right once, and it's a take, but they have to get it right at every performance.... |

I've used upwards of 30 takes to get a bass part right before. Recording is hard, live is far easier. _________________ Primitive Utility Steel |

Just had a listen to Prarie Home Companion with Pete Finney doing the steel work behind Patty Loveless. You can tell the degree of professionalism best when they use chime (OOPS: should I have said Harmonic...) passages and don't miss any of them. Time and long experience make a big difference in these efforts.
I'm happy to say Pete surely earned his salary on this gig. He also did a suspended (Well, sort of...) ending on her rendition of Cold Cold Heart that bent my ear double over. A very, very nice touch to an old favorite. Here's a couple of COOLS for you Pete !!

I've also had done some recording before, It was fun.
The engineer would play the track a couple of times, and the producer asked me to listen to it. In order to get an idea of what to put in. Just use my imagination he said. And I did. |
