My simple way of sub-grouping PSG set-ups goes:
Standard(represented D-10 /S-10),Universal & Third
Way,which is what I play ; it´s basically a "Texas
C 6th" with a few subtle changes & extras that really open doors in every direction, but it´s still
a proud 6th-based set up,without "Universal" pre-
tentions...the "Uni" concept dictates that You should
be able to have just about ALL of the combined possi-
bilities of C 6th & E 9th at Your disposal,but that´s
a lofty goal..."Uni" works perfectly for a
lot of pickers,but I believe a C 6th,slightly exten-
ded, will cut it within any musical idiom...McUtsi |

This fairly simple set-up offers endless possibili-
ties, but many of them don´t surface until You play
it "in the flesh",like P2 & RKL,in combination w/
bar movement produce great "Nashville"-type licks ;
the top 4 strings(non-pedal heritage)provide You w/
B&C-type harmony without pedals and they´re the key
element to a lot of speed picking ; all-in-all...it´s
the tuning I´m linked to,and IF,by chance,anybody
should be interested,I´ll explain my way of using
some of these changes...Gotta Go,my wife & I are
goin´ shoppin´...McUtsi[img]

For a sample of this tuning You might listen to
Earl & Dallas´ "Higher Level"...really laid-back
steel-playing...I´m on "Changes" too,even more
low-key,but we all play simple in the studio, don´t
we..?..http://www.myspace.com/earlanddallas |
