After a few months goofing around on a lap 6 and dobro, I now have a decent 8-string and I'd like to get some pointers, preferably on both lap steel and dobro.

Can anyone recommend a good teacher (for beginners) in the Austin area?

David Hamburger is an excellent Dobro instructor and fantastic player. I think he's in the book and you should just give him a call. Also Kevin Brown is helping out at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree and staying at my place after the Dallas show and mentioned workshops/lessons on steel while he is here (March 16-26). Give me a call on the Tribo phone 512-796-7375 around or before that time and maybe ya'll can set something up.

Also from June 3-7 2009 the Hill Country Acoustic Music Camp is offering Dobro this year. Held in Kerrville. Floyd Jasper is teaching Dobro. It's a great time.

Eric,

thanks, I'll be thinking about getting with one or both those guys in March. Hopefully by then I'll be a little more ahead of where I am now, and I'm looking to get with somebody ASAP (I've been checking a couple of local guitar/music schools about a lesson today if possible, but so far no soap).

I want to get down to your place on S. Lamar to try out some bars some time. Your brother told me about them, and then I started reading the rave reveiws here on the forum. I'm used to a Stevens style and I'm trying to switch to a bullet now. Of course, it feels unwieldy by comparison, so I'm thinking the tribotone might be just what I need.

Thanks again for the info, I will be giving you a call soon.
