I'll be back at the Augusta Heritage Festival at Davis And Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia this July teaching Swing Ukulele and Beginning C6 Hawaiian/Western Swing Lap Steel.

Join us - July 26-31, 2009

This year, Swing Week will share the Elkin's campus with Bluegrass Week. Forumite Dave Giegerich will be teaching Dobro during Bluegrass week. It will be great fun spending time with my old buddy (known him for 30+ years) Dave and maybe I'll finally get back the fifty bucks he owes me. Wink

Here is a clip advertising the festival. The soundtrack for the track is a live recording at last year's concert.

Blackie's Tune

I am playing my Fender Champion lap steel with the Peter Ecklund Ensemble. We are playing an Ecklund original "Blackie's Tune". My fellow Swing week instructors chime in with solos on Trumpet(Ecklund), Guitar(Tom Mitchell - of Dan Hicks/Dave Giegerich fame), Trombone, Piano. My steel solo kicks in at about 2:30.

It was a blast playing on and off stage with Peter Ecklund. He's recorded with David Bromberg, Bonnie Raitt, Maria Muldaur, Gregg Allman, Leon Redbone, Jay Ungar, Molly Mason, Livingston Taylor, Loudon Wainwright and many others. He's also appeared in a few Woody Allen movies. He has made albums of old-style jazz for the Stomp Off and Jazzology labels and a solo album featuring many of his own compositions for Arbors Jazz.

I've always really liked Peter Ecklund a lot. He's a real Bixophile. I've got numerous recordings of him with Marty Grosz and I have his Bix transcriptions book. Never had the chance to play with him, you lucky dog.

You're becoming a real fixture there at Augusta--good for you!

They say if you loan somebody 50 bucks and never see them again it was probably worth it.
I can bring 20 to Augusta and get the rest to you Christmas. Not sure which year, but by Christmas.
I agree about Peter Ecklund, I get to play with him at Ashoken and it's always a pleasure.
