Just wondering if there is a discernable difference between the two.

I am quite familiar with the trapezoid pickups...but have never played a guitar that had the earlier boxcar type pickups. Why did Fender change? The traps had to be considered an 'improvement' for some reason, right? Maybe better fidelity on the bass strings?

Just figured there are a few people here that have compared the two that might know...thanks!

Jon, I believe your observation is correct. The traps. have more "body" on the bass strings.

I like the sound of the E major tuning on the "box cars" (but, I've never played one).

The C6th, I like better through the traps.
