For the Lloyd Green fans:
There's a brand new CD out with a lot of great Lloyd Green steel; it's called "You Don't Have to Like Them Both", and it's by Eric Brace and Peter Cooper. Peter Cooper's previous album "Mission Door" has been mentioned here before because of Lloyd's great playing on it. This is sort of similar I guess; not exactly country, maybe more "folk" or "americana" or whatever. To me it's just great music and once again Lloyd really shines; innovative, soulful and beautiful all at once.
The CD (and "Mission Door") can be ordered here for 12 bucks:
http://redbeetrecords.com/index.htm?inc=5&news_id=14605
It's also available on itunes for the usual 99 cents a song; from the steel point of view I'd especially recommend:
"Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still"
"Yesterdays and Used to Be's"
and
"Drinking from a Swimming Pool"
I would rank this stuff up there with anything Lloyd's ever done, it's just stunning, beautiful playing in my humble opinion.
Full disclosure: both Eric and Peter are good friends of mine and I've been blessed to play a lot of music with each of them at various times over the years. But they had the good sense to use Lloyd in the studio for this album and really let his creativity loose, and that seems worth passing on to forumites who might be interested... |

I just finished listening to the audio samples on all the tracks. I must say it sounds like an all male version of the Woodys. This does not detract from the quality of their music it just reminds me of the previously mentioned group. Peter |

Pete,
Peter is a cool guy and a huge proponent of steel guitar. I got to know him through work. I am the guy that hooked him up with his Triumph.
I haven't talked to him in a long while, please tell him I said hello.

After not really caring for Peter Coopers "Mission Door" at first, it's in high rotation on my Ipod now.
I just picked up the Brace/Cooper new one today and love it. Lloyd is so subtle and tasty. Fun stories put to song. |

I seem to recall reading here a while back about an album that Peter was doing with Lloyd, that would only have those two playing. Just Peter (with his guitar?) and Lloyd, nobody else. Was I dreaming, or does anyone know if this is still coming our way? _________________ Steeless. |

I think Pete Finney mentioned that here.
Edited to add: Maybe I read that in Vintage Guitar? |

These are two great albums-if you don't have them, you're missing some fine music. |

Mission Door is fantastic. Great songs by Peter Cooper, excellent lyrics. Lloyd is so inventive. Nancy Griffith sings on the title cut. |

It's the good stuff.
I think Peter still has more "in the can" that he recorded with Lloyd; and Eric & Peter just did a session with Lloyd on steel and Mike Auldridge on Reso... no release info yet but THAT will be something to hear too!
And both Peter and Eric know just how lucky they are _________________ "I just came in here from force of habit... I don't intend to spend too much time in here."

Peter Cooper's previous CD "Mission Door" is not to be missed either, produced by Lloyd. Great songs, some guest singers (Nanci Griffith, Todd Snider) and some BEAUTIFUL playing by Lloyd. |
