Cindy Cashdollar and Redd Volkaert at the very top of their game.

Great vocal by Redd, and the steel ride by Cindy is sweeeeeeeeet!

I caught this same group, minus Cindy, this past Saturday afternoon at the Continental. They had the place packed for a 3 p.m. show.

Great playing all around. Rich Harney is sure no slouch on the keys. And Redd is one funny, funny, man as well as a great vocal/guitar talent

For anyone in the central TX area later this month, Cindy will be at Antone's with the Texas Guitar Women on the 23rd, and at Gruene Hall the 31st with Erik Hokkanen, Gary Claxton and others.

Also the 30th in Fredericksburg with Doug Davis and others.

On electric, Cindy uses C6th with a high G (equivalent to A6th) hi-to-low, GECAGECA and E13th EC#BG#F#DE. She uses open D, G and G6th on acoustic.

Individually, Cindy and Redd are masters of their instruments. Cindy told me how playing with Redd really keeps her on her toes as he loves spontaneity and throws in all kinds of wild licks, tempo changes and musical jokes when they play live. I caught up with them this Summer at the Lowell Folk Festival. They closed with a killer version of the Allman Brother's tune, Jessica. Besides being great musicians, both Cindy & Redd are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet.

Check her website for full tuning info ...

Andy,

I thought it was C6 but wasn't sure, never heard C6 like that before! She was really making that Stringmaster spill its guts! Much more of that stuff and that Fender will need greif counseling or some therapy! LMAO!

I am in the process of switching to that tuning on my SuperSlide S-8. It obviously has a lot of possibilities.

I met Redd years ago in Nashville, can't remember who he was with at the time, I was more focused on his ability on the Tele. This Dude can really "Spank The Plank". I think he was with Clinton Gregory at the time. And yes, very cool character to be sure.

Never met Cindy, but am working on her Dobro instruction DVD's, she has a real gift of getting ideas across unlike any instructor I've dealt with. She seems to be a natural at teaching. She has a beautiful touch on Dobro!

Hers and Redds playing complement each other nicely, it would be cool if they cranked out an album maybe someday. I think Redd's vocals are great!

Thanks for the info Andy!

Better than a CD is a great live concert that was videotaped. That YouTube clip is from Redd's "Live at the Continental Club in Austin" DVD. It's a professionally-shot honky tonk, Tele & Stringmaster-piece. Unfortunately, Redd's site says he's all sold out.

I think he did a hitch with Alan at one point. Also with Haggard if I'm not mistaken. It was in the mid to late eighties when I saw him with Clinton.

I found that DVD, kinda, Redds agency has a Tele lesson by Redd that has that show included.
