I was talking on the phone today with my dear friend Terry Bethel and the conversation about "unknown greats", I guess you could say, came up and he was telling me about a guy that he knew named Danny Sneed. I guess I have never met Danny, but Terry told me that I would love his playing because he's very tasteful and very accurate and just plays great. Terry told me to look him up on YouTube and there would probably be some stuff on there from Danny.......BOY IS THERE EVER!!!...Everything I saw was just Danny playing by himself....but he doesn't need anybody else playing the way he does.
His user name on YouTube is Jazzrone, but if you just type in Danny Sneed, it will start you off with probably something like..."Just Danny" or "Me and my Fessy". My particular favorite I think is called "Not a Scratch 0001"....VERY COOL STUFF!!!
If you watch his pedals, it's obvious that he lowers his strings instead of raising them. Very unusual by today's standards.
I also noticed where some of his videos only have 900 or 1000 hits.....that's not NEAR enough! Everybody that loves steel guitar and loves to hear different styles should check Danny out. I don't know how to do a link to his YouTube videos, but do yourself a favor and check Danny out. It's pretty amazing.
I want to thank Terry Bethel for the heads up on Danny and I want to thank Danny for the great playing. I hope our paths cross sometime in the near future.

I have to agree with you , Tim... Danny has been playing for yrs , and played all over with his family band. His brothers all had a huge talent , and they were well known in the west, but Danny now plays at the "Buffalo Chip" in Cave Creek , Az. Not only does he have great videos, but in the live band, he always has some totally different type of lead solo in the songs. The videos show just how a "sick mind" can work to overcome mundane music ... He rides a nice horse too, 20-25 miles a day. JF |

What ya'll already said..........
And to add a little known fact, I understand that Danny was Tommy Dodd's and Gary Carter's teacher when they were Air Force brats growing up in Alaska. The Sneed Family toured the bases up there.
I am loooking to tie in some Danny listening at the club with the Phoenix show weekend. _________________ Bill Cunningham
