I've been in the process of switching ISPs (Verizon DSL - Comcast Broadband) and now Eudora (email) is not working.
They were asking for a password all of a sudden, and I can see why, because I changed all the email settings (incoming;outgoing etc.) from Verizon to Comcast.
I had to go back to Comcast and tell them that the username they initially issued me will not work.
I have to change it to SEATUG, which is what Eudora knows and loves. It makes it easier.
But anyway, after all this UN and PW stuff got straightened out, the password pop-up flag in Eudora ceased. So now I can't enter in the altered UN and PW info.
The pop-up warning flag says:
ERROR GETTING NETWORK ADDRESS FOR "INCOMING.COMCAST.NET". NET CAUSE: REQUESTED ENTRY NOT FOUND (11004).
Can someone help me here, please, so I don't have to deal with Eudora Support?
Some say Eudora is an old system, but I found it to my liking; and I went with it when a lot of folks were having troubles and complaints with Outlook Express, especially wide-open virus vulnerability; back in Windows 95, 98 era.
And, I never cared much for OE.

My inbound server is:
mail.comcast.net
My outbound is:
smtp.comcast.net
You can login to comcast here, meander on over to the FAQ for their internet services and they have a pictorial for setting up Eudora Ver. 7.
You might consider a change to Mozilla Thunderbird. I knoiw old habits are tough to break. |

Thanks Howard,
I'm just waking up and getting on here, but I'll definitely check out the Comcast/Eudora link.
This problem has happened a few times in the past with Eudora, but I remember it was a fairly easy/routine fix. I forget how it went just now, and can't seem to find out how.
Thanks again.. |

Ah...
I just double-checked inbound/outbound settings,
and my listings are:
MAIL: incoming.comcast.net
SMTP: outgoing.comcast.net
This looks like the problem right there. I thought that didn't look quite right.
I'm still gonna review the link, though, before I do anything else. |

Thanks again Howard,
My INCOMING and OUTGOING settings were definitely the culprit.
INCOMING mail seems slower, tho, than before; the yin/yang wheel just seems to spin forever, even without attachments. OUTGOING is real fast.
maybe it will work itself out.
I might take a look at THUNDERBIRD. The problem I found, tho, with switching email providers is in IMPORTING all your "stuff". Not all "stuff" gets through.
Thanks again. |

Howard,
Thanks again about Thunderbird. I tried it out, and it's format is pretty close to Eudora's, so I'm gonna stick with it. Importing Eudora files worked real well, too.
I uninstalled Eudora in ADD/REMOVE, but most of the Qualcomm folder (Eudora) in Program Files still remains (about 350MB). It didn't go away.
Do you (or anyone) know another way to get rid of this. Is it safe to delete all files/folders in the Registry that say "Eudora"?
Something seems screwy about this.

Check and see if there is an uninstall utility in "start/programs/wherever eudora.exe" used to be.
If not there, see if an uninstall is available from the vendor.
Maybe others will have suggestions. It's been years since I mucked with Eudora.

There is a utility in Windows XP where one can choose which program handles this or that function. It is called "Set Program Access and Defaults." The same utility exists in Windows Vista and its use is described on this Microsoft help page.
With the aforementioned utility you can choose your default browser, email client, IM client, etc. Make your selection and click Apply. If your desired program is already selected, but not acting as the default application, change the program to something else, click Apply, then change back to your preferred program and click Apply again. This should set it as the correct default whatever program. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
