Do you set the delay time - fast for fast songs
and slow for slow songs.

If you have a tap delay feature on your delay unit that would work for different speeds. If you have the ability to have different patches that would also work well.

I tend to use 300 mill with 2-3 repeats set to about 18% volume. You can hear it but it is not overwhelming.

With my DigiTech RP-150 I have programmed in three different delays that I like. 210ms, 250ms, and 300ms. Only one repeat. Very subtle delays with a bit of Lexicon Hall reverb mixed in.

The problem with most stomp-box delays is, you have to guess at the number of milliseconds you are using.

gents...
new steeler here...Im just getting into effects...what's the idea behind a delay? does it work over and above the reverb effect? I have a Boss DD-3 (that by chance I purchased for my electric guitar) but Id like to get into modifying my steel tone...any help would be much appreciated!

Steve, the good folks at http://analogman.com/ have a DD-3 mod I had done that I love. It's called the High Cut Mod. They install a little toggle switch. When not engaged the DD-3 functions exactly as it does normally. When engaged it progressively cuts the highs off of each repeat, emulating the classic sound of an analog delay unit. It gives you another option in the same box.

I use a Lexicon MPX 200 effects unit for delay along with a few other things.
I have it set for a single delay which gives the string picked just a little echo effect. I never change the tempo.

I don't normally use delay in the traditional sense, but I do use a 20-40 ms predelay on my reverb. If I do, it's set for 1 echo, low volume, 250 ms.

I use an Alesis QuadraVerb+ External~Effects Unit and all my Programs use one of two Delay~Settings. Either 200ms with just the one repeat or 360ms with just the one repeat. With the RV~3 unit that I used to have, I found that the best way to get a good setting was to first adjust the Reverb to the way you like it and then blend in the Delay-Knob to where it becomes just Audible and forget about how many ‘ms’ it might be! How many ‘in number’ is not really important to the overall sound! It's only necessary as a reference-point, if you're setting up a custom-program.

I believe this is what someone said was LG's RV-3 settings, but I'm not certain.

Mode @ # 7

Mix @ 8:00

Feedback @ 11:00

Delay @ 1:00

In the above, I have no idea if that's meant to be (O'clock) or the numbers 8, 11, & 1

Try them both ways, and you decide. The mode, I'm certain of being #7

Hope that helps.

Mode #6 = Hall~Rev.
Mode #7 = Plate~Rev., is the Mode that I preferred.
I adjusted the amount of Rev. until it was pleasing to my ear and then brought the Delay~Time in just until I could notice that it was there! The greater the amount of Rev., the more (stronger) Delay is required to be heard. Any Feedback is turned “OFF”. The number of ms was not a factor. It's the overall sound that was important to me! Don; Those numbers you have in your Reply represent O'clock, but; I wouldn't recommend all of those times! Feedback is not desireable, IMHO!

Hi John,

I just did a lookup and this is where I'd gotten that information. Casey Lowmiller had posted what he believed to be Lloyd's RV-3 settings for Terry S, I think it was..

Since I haven't used my RV-3 on steel yet, I really have no idea what my preferred choice of settings would be.

Wishing everyone a great New Year.

When I had an RV~3, I didn't note the O’clock settings. I just set it my way, until it sounded best to me, but; I didn't make note of it! You could be right-on!(???)

I have a DD6,there so many settings on it I am finding it difficult to find one for general use.
I know it's a personal thing but has anyone come across a setting that would fit the bill.At least give a starting point.

cheers Ray
