For years Connie Smith has been my favorite female vocalist . In the past Laney was the only one who could get close to Connie. But at the 2003 ISGC, Laney was right on the same level as Connie and with Russ on steel guitar, they were a combination that will be hard to beat. Now I have two favorite female vocalists, Laney Hicks, and Connie Smith. Jody.

She had me wondering where was she when I was single, haha. Being a Connie fan since day one, we really enjoyed her great songs and Russ is not only a fine player but a blessed man to have a bride with such talent. I could enjoy more of his playing and her singing.

Laney Hicks is a fine singer and you only have to be around Russ a short while to realize that he is truely a Gentleman's Gentleman! They are both fortunate!

It was my pleasure to see Russ in about 68 or so with Connie when she came through CA with Ray Price. I had heard Russ playing with Johnny Wright and Kitty Wells and that was after his stint with Slim Mimms and I was very impressed with him that night.

I have been impressed since my first convention 2000. I had the pleasure of being in the Derby room when Laney sang many songs. She was great then and they sure are one of the best and close loving couples one can meet.As I told Smiley the Russ and Jimmy show was among the best picking ,singing and entertaining sets of the convention. Both have great new CD's out and availible.

I just listened to Laney's new CD of Connie Smith songs: it's really terrific. She sings her heart out; come to think of it, she sings my heart out. And her boyfriend Russ does a pretty fair job of playing steel guitar... just like Weldon showed him! But seriously, folks, it's an excellent CD!

I hear Laney is coming to Chubby Howard's show in Fairborn, OH on October 5th. I assume she'll bring a top notch steel man with her for the gig.

That sign mod was a cool idea and we all had a lot of fun with it, including Russ. Laney will need a new sign for the next show as I saw Russ personlly restore the one shown above before packing it up.

Russ & Laney, a perfect pair if there ever was one! Absolutely first class steel playing, and truly first class vocals. What more could a person want! These are two people that I just never get tired of hearing perform. I hope they keep producing their music, as I would buy all they did.

Russ is also lucky because he has just started working with Connie Smith. So he has the best of best worlds, a beautiful and talented wife and a beautiful and talented boss. Some guys have all the lucky.
