In the 70's, I had a "leslie" stomp-box. I cannot remember the name of it and wondered if anyone else had one. To the best of my memory it looked like a MXR Phase 90 but that was a long time ago. |

Back in the "old days" I used a DOD 565 Chorus unit as a leslie simulator. It was terrible as a chorus unit with steel but great as a leslie simulator. |

One possible candidate could be the very vintage
Ibanez phaser that debuted in-74 or thereabouts ;
that, like all the classic Ibanez pedals, were built
by the MAXON company ; it´s available again under
the MAXON brand as part of their REISSUE SERIES ;
great pedal,MXR-sized ; I remember a time when these
units were kicking around in rehearsal rooms,I wish
I´d kept one or two of them,they´re rare...McUtsi |

...Yeah,if we´re talkin´ real Leslie-simulation
we have to look in the UniVibe direction,but...the
old UV is a huge hunk of a box in comparison with the
aforementioned "size-estimate":the MXR...AND...in the
70´s we all(well,98% of us) called the early phasers
MINI-LESLIES...the plot thickens...or phases in &
out...McUtsi |

It was probably the Pro Junior.
These days I use an H&K Rotosphere. It really nails that Leslie sound - even the resonance of the cabinet. It works well in mono or stereo, and includes a 12AX7 preamp tube for the overdrive sound. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Hey,Lynn...interesting project,and I just LOVE those
Retro ads ; I´d like to build a box like that(with
some components in it...)one day, when my desk is
clear of have-to-do´s ; while we´re into Leslie-
territory...I´m probably not the only one nourishing
dreams of having a real Leslie on stage, moving air
& making noise...but,the concept of carrying one of
these beasts around closes the file...but I read
about Tris Mahaffeys(of Songworks) tiny "rotating
speaker" enclosure ; has any of You put one of his
units to the test..?..it COULD do service in the
studio,but I wouldn´t purchase before testing ; for
"swooshing" I rely on my Fulltone Deja Vibe, the old
one with the golden finish.McUtsi |

Maxon sounds right. I do remember it was yellow but I cannot remember if it had more than one control. The drummer found it for me but neither of us remember what happened to it. I must have sold it when I got mad and quit in '79. |

Kenny, those are called Roto-Sound. I have one. Great sound, but a little noisy. Guitar center and Musicians Friend have them. They're not too pricey. |

Roual,
that may have been the FL9 flanger?
BTW, has anyone tried running two phasors or a phasor and a chorus for a leslie effect? Maybe one at a fast rate and one at a slow rate? |

I have a Korg G4 and a Dano "Corned Beef Hash" and the Dano is pretty noisy,I was wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of some of the noise?Stu _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5... Yeah, could be the FL 9,which was built by...MAXON...
but Ibanez- named & -distributed...by the way,the
9-series MAXON pedals are available again, and they
are absolutely outstanding, used by many of the
top players.Mcutsi |

I know this has been a dead thread for a while, but wanted to revamp it...
Strymon is about to announce a new pedal, which we are all thinking is a leslie/rotary effect...it's called Lex...will have more details very soon, but knowing Strymon's reputation, this could be a great Leslie effect (if it truly turns out to be one)...
I got their El Capistan (tape echo) a few months ago and this is the best sounding tape echo except the old EP-3's of course...so, hoping to add a rotary to the Steel pedal board...
Anyone currently use one with PSG or have any audio clips? |

These guys over at Strymon (previously called Damage Control) are some of the very brightest designers I know of. They're doing things with digital processing that is as impressive as anything anyone is doing out there. Strymon is also making two of the very best delay pedals available, and with an analog dry path. Great stuff, very smart, and cool people to deal with. I can only imagine that this Lex leslie simulator is gonna be as good as they get.

Brad, completely agree! When the El Cap was coming out, I was full of questions, as I was almost about the get an EP3....They were great answering, informing, and treating me like they knew me for years....And yes, bright they are!
I also agree about their delays being some of the best...the El Cap is hands down the best board/gig friendly tape echo sim...The Brig is a good delay, but always more of a tape echo guy...
BTW, I'd love to chat some regarding the Rev vs. SMS... |

I found one of the old Maxon ones today. It was okay, but after trying a bunch of univibe/rotary speaker pedals, the Voodoo Lab Microvibe sounded the best to me. (a lot better than the way more expensive Fulltone, BTW.) |
