Jim Cohen and "Beats Walkin". I'd check on or with Jim for dates. |

We haven't been playing lately - but when we do, I play pedal steel (with James Harton on B3) with Americana band Kris Kehr and the Stone Poets - mostly between Reading and NW Philly when we're down there.
Forum member David Doggett plays pedal steel with the Philadelphia Blues Messengers.
Forum member Dave Van Allen sometimes plays pedal steel with Americana band The Youngers, sometimes with my buddy James Harton on B3.
The Youngers frontman Todd Bartolo also plays lap steel with Frog Holler.
I think there's a changing cast on some of these, so best to check with the band before you go if you want to be sure to get some steel guitar.
I imagine there are others also. |

Marc Silver and the Stonethrowers, and Citizen's Band Radio both have steel players. I don't know when their next gigs are. _________________ GFI Ultra S-10, Nashville 112, stuff. |

I'll be playing with Beats Walkin' on New Year's Eve at Pendle Hill in Wallingford, PA (full-course meal etc. $65), and also on Feb 13 at the Mermaid Inn (Mt Airy/Chestnut Hill section of Philly), starting at 9pm.
Email me if you're interested in more details.

I don't mean to take away from this post, but was wondering if any of you in the Philly area was familiar with, or had ever heard of a piano player by the name of Carl Hausman. I worked with him a long time ago, in that area. Doyle |

There are not many places left in this area to play country music traditional or modern and even fewer bands that have a pedal steel.
Forum members Wayne Tyler with Mason Dixon and Ted Russell with Four Wheel Drive play in the area and are very good.
Currently between country bands, you can find me Thursday nites at Genelles at 8th and Market in Wilmington Delaware playing chicago style blues with a group of great pickers that usually includes David Bromberg. Sit-in's and guests are always welcome, bring an axe, any kind. If you can play, you're welcome to try my Derby. If you can't, you will get the hook after a tune.
We start at 7:30 and finish by 10:30... it's a school night you know. |

I'm playing blues on my uni with the Philadelphia Blues Messengers at Graterford Prison 1/17. But it's only for the inmates, and I don't think you want to pay that price just to hear us.
We'll be playing to the public Friday 1/30 at La Rose, 5531 Germantown Avenue, in the Germantown section of Philly. That club is trying to have blues the last Friday of every month.
Hank's Cadillac plays traditional country around the area. Do a search on them and you'll come up with their calendar. They have had a lap steel player in the past, but I don't think they have a steeler right now.
The Broken Prayers is a country-rock group in South Philly. They sometimes play the Tritone, and usually have myself or another steeler.
Slo-Mo (Mike Brenner) is a very interesting lap steeler who will be playing the World Cafe Live New Year's eve with a big group that does an eclectic melange of hip-hop and I guess what you would call alt-pop.

While David Brenner is also (originally) from Philly, Slo~Mo is actually Mike Brenner, who isn't quite as funny but a much better steel player! _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Jc, Troy C was at the jam the other week, mentioned your name and then played his tail off doing solos and horn section parts with a trombone player.
It was fun filling out the horn section parts with them. BB |

Yeah, we figure Graterford Prison is one place we wont lose half the crowd by the last number. But we're backing a really hot young female R&B vocalist - hope there's not a riot. Actually, I just hope we don't have any trouble getting back out. |
