I've been enjoying Rick Alexander's Songs from the Old Country. Like the title says, there's plenty of the traditonal country music that I have always loved. I especially enjoy Rick's version of The Wayward Wind and Get Rhythm. Nice going, Rick. I can tell that the CD is a labor of love.

Chuck, thank you so much! I'm sure glad you're enjoying it.
Yep, 20 traditional country songs from the 40s, 50s & 60s.
Many of them didn't have steel guitar in the original versions.
I guess there were reasons for that, but they couldn't have been very good reasons . .

............................CD info

Thanks Mr. Boardez!
It's gonna be a special event for sure!

I'll be performing songs from this CD at the Non Pedal Session, and in the Main Ballroom.

I can't wait to hear Rick's new CD.

The CD covers........and photography are so fabulous. Do you suppose he does that too, in addition to the really great music and arrangements?

Just got mine, too...Great CD! Cool

Rick does it all...plays the instruments and sings. And it was especially nice to hear steel guitar on some songs that didn't have it in the original recordings.

Rick's new CD inspires lots of toe tapping and singing along. So be ready for it to put you in a good mood!!!

Very Happy

Rick,

Your new CD is wonderful and all 20 cuts will be a part of my "Swingin' West" radio shows for sure.

I have written a detailed review of this beautiful new CD that can be found on the top of my "Review" section of my "Swingin' West" web site. www.swinginwest.com

Got this CD for Christmas this year. I dropped it into iTunes and it is all I have listened to since.
Rick has done a great job recording this CD. There are 20 songs on it and every instrument was played by Rick himself. There is quite a bit of "Non Pedal" steel guitar on every song. I know he used several different steels during the recordings.

My favorites so far are Roly Poly, Heartaches by the numbers and Truck Drivin Man.

If you like the old school country and want to save those memories this is a good CD for just that.

I know how Rick thinks. He is probably already getting ready to do a "New Country" CD. Can you just see him doing Taylor's "Fearless" or Jessica's "Come on Over" well, maybe "Long Black Train"...
Any suggestions?

Great job Rick! Winking

All I can say is "IT's fabulous"!

The wife and I have been enjoying it all evening.
Turned the TV off, for once, and pleasured our ears with some really great music.

I didn't realize Rick had such a great singing voice.
We've got to have more of this!

Being purely selfish now, I think his rythmn guitar playing is some of the best I've heard. A nice strong accompaniment that any steel player should crave!

Good Luck to you Rick, on the CD's success......

I got the CD today and it's great. It sounds like it's straight out of the 50s, as I'm sure was the intent. I'll be giving it a lot of plays. Very Happy

The title had me fooled a little. I've always thought of the "Old Country" as the country of one's ancestors, so I was half expecting folk songs. Embarassed

Mike, thanks for playing my music on your wonderful Swingin' West show.

Thanks G-man! You sure have me figured out - yep Taylor and Jessica are what's next for sure . .

Thanks for posting the playlist Danny!

Ray, thank you for the kind words!

I'm happy that you're enjoying it Alan.
The title is my attempt at triple entendre . .

Rick: to my mind this is your best compilation to date. You are one of the few people who are playing the old C&W the way it was intended. Keep up the good work. Very Happy

Rick..... you succeeded in recreating the sound of yesteryear that brings back so many great memories. Congratulations on a job well done. I'll see you in Dallas, next March, and I again thank you for extending me the privilege of playing in the non pedal room.

Let's bump this wonderful CD up again for two of my favorite lap players, Rick the man behind the CD and Chuck the person that initiated this thread. It was great to also see the words of one of my favorite all time Bob Wills Texas Playboys, Hall of Famer Maurice Anderson.

Thanks so much Reece, that really means a lot coming from you.
I've loved that era of country since I was a little kid with a wind-up Victrola, and it just stuck with me all these years.
What is it they say - you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy.

Thanks Alan, I truly appreciate your kind words.
I spent a lot of time in the studio with this project, and it sure is gratifying to know you're enjoying it.

Mike, what can I say buddy - you're one of the best friends that real music could ever have.
I hope you never stop doing Swingin' West!
Always a great program, I know everyone missed it last Saturday.
It's a mighty good thing we had that pre-recorded hour to tide us over . .
