Like I said before it takes more than being a lush to make the HOF. He didn't do that much to warrant being there. Plus there are other more deserving artists that should be there first. As far as the son goes if he can sing half as good as his mom or dad he probably has a future. Oh yeah his grandpa Morgan was a pretty fair singer also. |

Keith had an illness big time.
It's been documented that when locked up with no alcohol he would drink aftershave lotion.
The illness killed him. That's the ultimate price.
It's not right to remember him for his illness only.
He was one of the best country singers ever. |

Very well said, Joey. When Keith was with J.D. Crowe, he was DEFINITELY the band's meal ticket. J.D.'s one of the best in the world, but Keith's voice, and his stage presence, literally brought folks out of the woods. And it hurt J.D. to fire Keith, but he had to. Keith and one of his D.C. buddies, Jimmy Arnold, would drink ANYTHING for a buzz. Both dead, too young.
Does Keith belong in the Hall of Fame? For what? A couple of hits, and a history of drinking too much, missing shows, bad performances, and letting down his fans? Absolutely not. Do we all need to remember him as one of the greatest country singers ever? ABSOLUTELY! |

If anything Whitley should go in way down the road behind Teddy and Doyle Wilburn, Joe Maphis, The Maddox family, Jean Shepard, Ferlin Husky, Tommy Collins, Roy Clark, The Oaks, and others too numerous to mention. I said I wouldn't speak up but Stephen sort of echoes my feelings. |

It's great to read these opinions. But,accusation to what you don't know to be true about Keith Whitley's life is another thing. All the bad things being said about him is wrong unless you truly know the truth about his death. He didn't (Keith) kill himself by himself. But,that an opinion, right. I don't think he'll get into that HOF in my (Leo) life time. I to agree that many of them other names should be in first before Keith. But,that won't happen. But, also in true resepct Keith's name is bigger that all them others for being dead for 19 years.I personally think that Keith should be in his home town of Sandy Hook,ky with his Father & Brother not with Lorrie after she's gone.Just my opinion. But,again what do I know. Gratitude,Leo J Eiffert,Jr. |

Leo, I'm not "making accusation to what I don't know about Keith Whitley's life." I'm stating what I know to be true. I used to have a drinking problem, too, and Keith and I would kid each other about being alcoholics. That's not accusation, that's fact.
I'm not trying to correct you, or argue with you, LJ. But, sad as the truth can be, Keith is all but forgotten now. And that's the truth. |

As wrong as I may be, I've always thought the Hall of Fame should consist of members whos influence on the music industry could not be denied. I don't think the fact that Keith had a drinking problem will keep him out. Too many of the current inductees suffered with the same addiction. His "shooting star" career lasted about the same amount of time as Hank Williams', minus several chart topping hits and the never ending promotion of Hank's ex-wife, Audrey. Not to mention the decades long push of his song catalog by Acuff-Rose Publishing. It is not my intention to slice and dice Hank Williams, and although he was a stylist, I don't feel that he was "all of that". I feel that Keith combined the "high lonesome" emotion of bluegrass with the vocal phrasing of Lefty Frizzell and came up with a damn good "style" of his own. He just didn't have that many "ball over the fence" hits and hasn't had the "promotion after death" that Hank had/has. Did Webb or Faron drink in excess? Did Johnny Cash have a problem with substance abuse?
IMHO, I don't believe it is his drinking problem that will disqualify him from being inducted. |

Stephen; I have an LP of the Country Store. Keith is on it singing and he must have been in his teens.
You can hear his young voice developing into one of the greatest country singers of all time.
Seems like in the 90's, a lot of new male country singers tried to sound like Keith. His singing influence was quite strong in the industry and so was his selections of songs that still get played on radio stations and on the bandstand.
He was in a class of his own and belongs in the HOF at some point. |

I think Keith belongs in the CMHOF at some point. If a history of drinking too much, missing shows, bad performances, and letting down his fans disqualifies him, then Hank Williams and George Jones shouldn't be there either, but I don't think that's the way it works.
To my mind, Keith - along with a very few others such as Randy Travis, Emmylou Harris, Patty Loveless, Marty Stuart, Vince Gill, and Ricky Skaggs - embody traditional country music and singing for my generation. Keith's influence on what's left of real country singing the last 30 years has been huge. I think it's interesting how many of these people seamlessly move between the electric honkytonk and acoustic country music traditions. To me, that's country.
I can't figure out what David Keith has to do with this - exactly who is it that he is suing and more importantly, how is it relevant to this story about Whitley being inducted into the HOF? The other thing I don't understand is how one "fights" to get someone into the HOF. It's one thing to lobby to promote it - that makes total sense. But the word "fight" seems to imply more than that, especially when you talk about lawsuits in the same breath. There are lots of worthy country musicians and singers who deserve to be in the HOF, and I don't think you can sue or otherwise force your way in. |

Actor David Keith has filed a federal lawsuit against an Alabama man for alleged breach of contract by failing to finance a movie about country singer Keith Whitley.
Keith filed suit in Knoxville on Wednesday against Davis Lee and his company Alatrade Trades, LLC.
Keith claimed Lee agreed to provide $10 million for the movie. The actor said the agreement culminated into a written contract, and Lee backed out.
The suit also outlines how Keith has spent months working to get the project lined up.
The suit asks for $10 million in financing for the movie and reimbursement for attorneys' fees. |

My opinion, but being a member of the country music hall of fame, doesn't seem to carry the amount of prestige that it once did. They can put whoever they want to in, doesn't matter to me. It won't change what's played on FM radio one bit.
As for the drinking and bad habits. Let he that is without sin cast the first stone.
