Well, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but we'd at least come in third- after Tennessee and Texas! With both Marlen and Emmons located here for so many years, along with a few lesser-known brands like Cherokee, there's a great steel guitar tradition in this state. I, for one, am thankful for the MASGA for being the catalyst to bring attention back to this great instrument in our neck of the woods. Thanks to Ken Latchum, Bowie Martin, Skip Mertz, Clyde Mattocks and all the other guys who have helped keep things rolling here all these years. We're in your debt! North Carolina rocks.

Don't have a photo, Nick. Does anybody out there have one on hand? If you'll email it to me, I'll post it.
Oh, I should certainly have mentioned the Lashleys and Leonard Stadler by name in the earlier post.

Here in North Carolina we hold country music very dearly and the steel guitar in particular. There are a lot of good players here as well as supporters. The Mid-Atlantic Steel Guitar Association plays a big role in that tradition holding several jams and shows annually. I build steel guitar seats as well as play a little steel. Rick McDuffie sells some of my seats as well as strings...picks...bars...amps and so much more in support of the steel. He has a great music store which you all should visit as well at www.tarheelmusic.com. You can bet he'll treat you right. I'll give Clyde a call and see if we can get a picture of the Cherokee. Herby Wallace comes to North Carolina a lot to jam with us but I'm not certain if it's for the BBQ or all us good ole boys and as for Herby.....well ole Herby just ain't sayin'.
