Both of these guitars are great.
I think your choice depends a lot on what kind of tone you are looking for.
The Gibson steels I have played in the past have always had a darker tone that the Fenders.
Leo Fender was a fan of treble tone.
Fender steels always get your attention more so that the Gibsons.
Your mileage may vary. |

Both have a great sound. I play a 49/50 Gibson Grande Console. It has a great classic sound. You can get a rough idea of the year by the PUs. The oval shape was replaced by the P-90 shape somewhere in the ealy fifties. I'm sure someone in the forum knows more than I. Good luck |

I have a 55' T-8 Fender Stringmaster and a 52' Gibson Grande Console, both are great guitars with their own unique tone and feel. The Gibson has a little wider string spacing than the Fender with a bassier tone that sounds pretty sweet. The Fender is a brighter more piercing tone that can cut through the mix but it's not a case of which one is better to me. You have to try both to see which one sounds and plays sweeter to you. |
