I decided to try Ray Langley's Ideal 6 String tuning and at the same time let the Forum hear my 1954 Tiesco Lap Steel. Now its more than 35 years since I tried to play a Lap Steel, so I hope you will all be gentle with me.

Over here in the UK, X-Factor has just come to an end and the song chosen to be released is "Hallelujah" sung by the winner. but there is some competition from other artists with the same song for No. 1 spot at Christmas, so I thought I would join in the fun.

Full details :- 1954 Tiesco 6 string Lap Steel, playing through a VOX Valvetronix. Recorded with a Zoom H2 Digital Recorder.

Please go here to listen, Its the first song on the list and will start automatically. Thank you.

Hi James,

Anything that keeps that abomination from X-Factor from Number 1 gets my vote!

I first heard this by Laughing Len in Manchester around 84 - 85 and I thought "what a great song".

Since then I have heard it by numerous artists, most of which do a fine job, but I had to cringe the other day when I heard the X Factor thing while shopping in my local Co-Op.

The steel sounds great by the way....looks good too

Well, maybe you had to dust off the old lap steel, but I didn't hear any signs of rust in your chops!

Please don't let another 35 years go by. Remember, it's still a good way to pick up girls. Or, in our case, old ladies. Smile

Wishing you all the best.

Ray
