How close should the strings be to the pickup. Is there an ideal distance? Thanks. |

Try the thickness of two quarters between the top of the pickup and the bottom of the strings as a baseline. From there you can fine tune a little up or down according to what pleases your ears. |

John - What kind of pickup(s) do you have? Single-coil? Humbucking? What brand? Exposed pole-pieces (magnets) or covered in plastic?

Lee, I have 3 guitars. One with humbucker off of a Fender strat, another with the single coil off the same guitar, and the one that I am most concerned with has a Airline DLX-SA R (SeiQ) which looks like a humbucker, but I think when I bought it, it was specified as a single coil. It is a brand new pickup that is suppose to give a vintage sound. I haven't heard it yet as I am still preping the guitar to accept it. |
