Good evening gentelman and Ladies, Greetings from what I think is the coldest place on earth to night Montello. Wisconsin,[+3f] I know it is not, but this is where I am so it is for me. With that said, Can any one recommend a nice light weight Amp to play my PSG on, I have a Peavy Nashvill 400 and I am tired of hawling it around, besides at my age I don't play out any more only at Church now and then.
Hope your Holliday is one of the better ones this year.

The most popular, best sounding, light amp is
a Peavey Nashville 112. It is incredible that this
12 in speaker has the qualities of a 15 in speaker. |

I second the Nashville 112 suggestion. For its size, weight (40 lbs. I believe), and relatively low price it is the best small steel amp available in my humble opinion. |

Gentelmen & Ladies, there is where I made my mistake, Every one said how good the 112 was, well rathere than keep waiting to see if one came up, I jumped on the 400 and did not realize the weight facter was inportant. Lesson learned.

Sorry Randy, Not familiar with the Evans. Want to give me a little more information. The Weight is half of what the 400 weighs.

Evans are great amps. Beware of buying from Canada. You may have to pay a "brokerage fee" to the shipper.

If you're in the market for a new Evans contact Bill Stroud. He'll make you a great deal on one and he's a super guy to deal with.I've bought a couple of the Evans SE200 from Bill. One for me and one for a friend of mine. The SE 200 is a great amp, lightweight with plenty of power.Contact Bill at the link below.

Try to find and old Yamaha G100 - 112. It's about the same size and weight as a Peavey 112 but with more power and a crisp more robust tone. I've seen them around in pawn shops for $125. They are great steel guitar amps for small to medium sized gigs. |

Michael is right on.
AS good as you can get for a small or medium steel amp. Has about any adjustment you want on it. Guitar, steel, acoustic, keyboard, it handles them all competenly. About same weight as a 112.
Have a great one and don't want to sell it.

Wayne; I had been playing through a Session 400, an old Sho-Bud and a modified Crate while playing with Heartland. One night I got caught without an amp and was forced to use one of the new Stagg 60GR, 60 watt single 12 amps w/reverb. The band absolutely loved the clarity and sound. We did a Christmas concert not long after and upon their request, I used it again. The sound engineer came up during the break and said I had the nicest smoothest sound he had ever heard from me. I still don't own one, but plan to as soon as I sell down some of my extra weight. They list for, I think, $250. www.staggmusic.com |

Thanks Jerry, that sounds like what I am looking for. I think I'll put that on my C. List, with all the snow we have this morning I think Santee can make it into my yard.
Thanks again You and Yours have a Wonderful Holliday.

Hi Wayne
I bought 2 Fender Princeton 65 65 watt amps on Ebay $135.00 ea and installed 12" Black Widow speakers @ $75.00.
One of these is strong enough I use it on small gigs.
If you trade out the BW magnet for a neo type magnet (8)lbs heavier you would stay around 30lbs total each.
It will knock out the windows and has a bright crisp tone.
I will concede the NV 112 has a deeper bass but it cost a lot more than I have in 2 of these.
Just keep the treble turned off and the bass full blast and they sounds great.
Just a thought! |

For my money it's the Peavey LTD 400. I have 2 of these and I love them. The amp weighs about 48 pounds and carries a 15", 4 ohm Black Widow speaker.

I used a G-100-112 last night on a gig and she performed perfectly. Great tone and plenty of power. Several people have asked to buy the amp and while it is a bit old and not the prettiest thing you will ever see....she gets the job done.
Ray Walker
PS
I have also used this same amp at some steel shows and each time folks can't believe that I get the tone that I do from it. |
