Reed wore a straw, round crown western hat with narrow brim in one of the Bandit movies. I owned one like it in the mid 80's. I want another one, but can't find one locally or online. I don't know the name of the hat. Does anyone know the name of the hat? I thought it was called "goat roper"?

Thanks Pat, I checked Sheplers and it isn't there. I checked several hat websites and can't find it. I went through 500 different cowboy hats and it's not there. Maybe it isn't made anymore? _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

Nowadays that style is called a "shady Brady." Try an internet search using that term. Hope that helps. _________________ Stew |

Try Hat Man Jack's in Wichita, KS. If he doesn't have one, I'm sure he can put you on the right track!!!

Dave, no, it was a taller and round crown and shorter brim. Almost like a stove pipe hat, but not as tall. But, made of straw. I haven't seen one anywhere since the early 80s. Unusual, but a cool hat.
I emailed the hat distributor in Wichita. Waiting to hear back from him. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

I can personally attest that Atwood hats are the most comfortable and durable cowboy hat you will ever own. No kidding. God Bless and Merry Christmas. _________________ Whip Lashaway

Hey Dennis, go to Littleton and look up the Detweilers there and they will more likely be wearing a straw hat. They are located on Hookey Blvd. |

Roger, many years ago, the doctor in Littleton con'ed the male Detweiler residents into getting vasectomies. Ivan was the last surviving Detweiler. He died last year at age 95. He was married, but had no children. Duh!
He was buried with his hat on. It's the same style hat I'm looking for. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

I don't remember the name of the store, but in Cherrokee NC there's a store that carries the Shady Brady hats just like Jerry's.
I have his 1984 Eagle coach and it's for sale. It has his hat etched in glass all over the interior as well as the gators. Maybe you'd like the bus to go with the hat. _________________ MASGA, Mullen G2, Hilton, Evans, Webb, Walker |

Alvin, I thought about that. But, the undertaker cut off the back 1/3 of the hat. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

The closest hat style I can find on the net is a straw stetson royal flush gamblers hat. However, the crown on the one I had was about 8 inches tall, twice as tall as the royal flush. I bought it at a local western wear store. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |
