Lots of banjo on the Led Zep version: was it Jimmy, JPJ or someone else?

Thanks, Charles. I checked out allmusic.com but there was no credit for banjo. What can you say about Jimmy Page? Amazing...

BTW, what does DYKBC stand for? Do You Know B....C...?

Check out Fred Gerlach's "Gallis Pole" on Folkways in 1962. Gerlach apparently got it from the Leadbelly version but Jimmy Page credits the Gerlach version and the similarities between Gerlach & the Zipper version are pretty clear. Gerlach's version was re-released on Classic Folk Music from Smithsonian Folkways, SFW CD 40110.

Page & John Paul Jones both took the classic session player's approach to things - tune it like a guitar if that's what it took, just make the darn sound.... I imagine Page didn't sit down and learn a bunch of Earl Scruggs breakdowns note-for-note, he just figured out how to make it go.
