Baz - wouldn't it make sense to have this thread in just one section...folks will see it - now to stay up with the responses, one will have to click on two different threads!

Bill did you see him "Touch" her ?
She said "Don't Touch Me Jerry"

On the Video "Mr. Record Man" featuring The Big 'E' there are THREE steels on stage :- And I think Jerry Byrd behind his custom ShoBud, playing Rhythm guitar.

I'm pretty sure that IS Jerry's steel. His Sho-bud had an eagle emblem in the center like this . . .

I believe the emblem on Jerry's Sho-Bud is actually a Pheasant or Grouse ....if I'm not mistaken.

From what Jerry said in his autobiography, that Sho-Bud was made for him to special order, and he didn't like the way it sounded. He eventually got so frustrated with it that he decided he was going to throw it into the river. After he threatened the instrument its tone changed overnight. Whoa!

Geeze! Rolling Eyes

Like, "Who cares???" Oh Well

I mean, you got Jeannie Seely singing that great song, Emmons backing her up, and you're worried about some other instrument that's sitting on the stage? Oh Well

Okay...just kidding. Wink

No one else had that “Bird” inlayed on the apron of their guitar. If they had an emblem, it was a Decal. And also, in 1966 there was only one ‘Byrd’ Sho-Bud. BTW: It had Gold-Plated (or anodized) hardware. Geo. L. also did some adjusting to the function of the P/U's, with switches and capacitors etc. Ask Scotty, he's got it now!

My eyes might be deceiving me, but I think that's Walter Haynes behind the other Sho~Bud there.

Another view of the SHO~BUD. The bird is a pheasant. Had the privilege to stand next to it on the Opry stage once. Regards, Jay Thompson
